I am looking to load some cast boolits for an Automag III pistol in 30 M1 calibre and would appreciate any help on loads for 120 gn RN and 165 gn Flat nose boolits. I think the 165 gn will be too heavy but am open to any suggestions.

I didn't have a pistol, but I used the Lee 113gr soupcan, the Lee 120 gr RN plain base, and some Lee 150 gr RNFP boolits in my carbine with good results.
What is the twist rate on your pistol and barrel length?

I cannot find the twist rate for the pistol but it has a 6.5" barrel. sorry to take so long to get back to you but have had no end of trouble trying to get info on the AMT Automag III.

I've loaded the Lee C309-120 R with good results in the Carbine and in a BlackHawk. Granted, the BlackHawk doesn't require a certain load to cycle the action, just the thumb. The Ruger is very finicky about case length but the carbine, not so much. Recently, I have been casting the SAECO 321 which is plain based and 95 grains. Zero leading when powder coated and purty to boot.

The Automag III was designed to cycle on factory loads so I would stick with those to start. I always thought the Automag III would be a fun gun to shoot but like the RBH, it has a very loud bark when fired. Even light loads with Unique were still obnoxiously loud.

Except for Contenders, every 30 carbine handgun I've encountered had a dismally slow twist, and bullets over about 120 gr or so wouldn't have worked. You can check the barrel yourself for twist rate with a cleaning rod and a tight fitting patch on a jag.

I load for the auto mag III and use 8.5 gr of Accurate #5 under the lee 120 GC RN bullet. I found it worked better than the H110 and Acc#9, used in the carbine, and had a much reduced muzzle flash. http://www.jaegerklub.de/1738_High-Standard-AUTOMAG-III.html, lists it at a 1/10 twist.

Many thanks for all of the help - I have to use cast bullets on our range and have a problem getting 110 or 120 gn in Australia. I have some 100 gn at .312 and ill probably get a swage to bring them back to .308. What diameter do use use in your Automag III ?
