I talked to the man who controls my life, and he has decided that Albany, GA will be good for me instead of Japan or Pendleton.

I'm not really thrilled about going to Georgia, but the wife will be happy as it is only 3 hours from her parent's house.

Anybody live in or near Albany, GA and have some pointers? I've never spent time there. Is it as gross as Atlanta, Athens, Marietta and Augusta? I hate to talk so bad about my home state, but BOOOOOOO.

GoodSteel- You might as well chamber my rifle in 41 rimfire long...

Been many yrs since I've wandered around those parts so IDK now.....but it was a cr@phole then & got national recognition as "murder capitol of America". IIRC that was in the mid to late '80s, during a similarly poor economic climate phase. YMMV however.......happy hunting Marine!

I grew up Georgia off and on, and I was born there. I do not want to go back to the east coast...period. It does get the Mrs. Back to family which was more important here. I may have her stay close to her parent's place and I'll get a ghetto hood apartment on the cheap.

Looks like my LRP has just been reduced from infinity to 20 feet.

No self respecting Marine that I know would forget his CQB mojo no matter where the dog drug him to. Personally, I worry more about Mrs. LL & crew than you......but all of you will stay in my prayers.

Look at the bright side, you're only 10 hours away from casa de la goodsteel!
I agree that you need to change the thrust of your weaponry though. Since you're moving to Ga, you're going to need a Mosin Negant (don't argue, it's a status symbol) and a 30-30, and you need to stockpile lots of remington corlockts and Russian tuna cans. You can keep your pistol, but you need to learn to shoot it sideways (very important if you're ejector ever fails, and then gravity will be necessary for proper function.)
LOL!
Seriously, welcome back to the south!

Looks like there are some towns surrounding that are much better with better schools and less crime. They are a little more costly, but that is why they are better.

Now I have to relearn how to avoid getting in fights because I am white. I have to learn which parts of town to avoid because I am white. I have to teach my daughter to avoid places because she is white. The wife already understands.

It just is not a place I want to raise my daughter. I have more research to do on schools.

Before anybody calls me a "Rayciss" I suggest you spend a few years living in the lovely, deep, dirty, south...

Just Hi-Tek coat the area, that will clean it up!

Not a southern boy at all, the heat would kill me. My wife had a grandmother who lived there, I never heard her speak poorly about the area.

Life gave ya lemons, hope you like lemonade.

Did the Augusta tour for a few years at Ft. Gordon. Know what you're talking about. Its amazing the assumptions that are made about someone just by what county is on a cars license plate. If your travels take you around Augusta, I can put you in touch with a friend of mine who can take you to the public range on Gordon. Very nice.

Ft Gordon and environs may not be heaven but it's only a few miles from it. Was gonna invite you to take a running leap up my buttstock but now that I've thought about it I hope you get a posting out west, waaay out west. Maybe LA or Seattle would suit you. Albany deserves better.

Not only catfish, but bream and crappies also make good lemonade I have fished over in that part of the world, but never hunted. I would think it would be some good squirrel hunting close by.

Dick, when you get over to see me, make sure you have a hitch ball on your ride. I have a 1963 aluminum boat with an 18hp motor on it you can borrow. It's set up if or trot lines, and I have not been able to use it since I started building rifles. You can borrow it for two years LOL!

Easy there guys. Lee county schools are where you want to be. I live 3 hours away. My brother lives in Lee County. Grew up there and Crisp county. City schools are pretty rough in Albany except Deerfield Windsor the private school. Fantastic hunting of any type. Many a BC record deer killed in surrounding counties. Base is actually about 10 minutes from Lee County line. Dougherty not so good. Lee is great.

This makes no sense. Please explain in great detail what you mean.

Are you inferring that I am a socialist? A liberal perhaps? That is what Seattle and LA make me think of.

Perhaps you believe I am racist?

Is that a thinly veiled threat in there? Bring it on.

Sorry dude, but I'm not interested in men's buttstocks...

I grew up there (Atlanta, Augusta, Athens area), and I'll run down the state of Georgia in any which way I please.

Now I asked you a question. Did you threaten me with a buttstroke?

Which military postings have you had through the years? Any that you weren't thrilled about?

Sounds good to me. I've got a buddy who lives about 30 minutes away from Conway. I'll be popping in to see him.

I gave him your number as he has more wild rifle ideas than I do...

He's a former Marine who actually was a Reconnaissance man and a Scout Sniper so expect to hear the phrase MOA and/or MILs at least 5,000 times! :bigsmyl2:

Albany is in the middle of the "peanut belt" if you like peanuts! That's about the only good thing I remember about it. Peter Pan has a big peanut butter plant there. That tour should kill an hour.

Albany had some of the biggest "palmetto bugs" (aka cockroaches) that I have ever seen! These are the only things I remember about it from my short time there in the early 90s. But anywhere is what you make of it. I'm sure that you can find interesting things to do if you try hard. And remember it's all for the good of the Corps!
