Cast with a LEE C312-155-2R from some old 9mm bullets. I cast about 30 bullets until I got the mould nice and hot to where the bullets came out shiny and un wrinkled. The measure .308 just above the 1st band. The large band measures .312 I am assuming that is the way they are supposed to cast? Anyway please let me know what you think. Thanks

Joe

I weighed these and they are 157.5g and all 4 were exaclty the same.

Nice! are they GC boolits? What are you going to dispense them out of?

They are GC boolits. I will be shooting these out of my Ruger Scout Rifle. I have to finish my sizing die, then size and install checks.

I cast a bunch more (not enough :) ) and then tossed them in my vibratory tumbler. They took on a dark grey color, probably from the media that was in there. I think they look cool. It made me think of moly coat. Which begs the question, has anyone used moly cote and baked it on boolits? Once again your input is appreciated.

Be very careful breathing the dust after vibrating lead. The dust contains very fine elemental lead particles you can easily inhale! Not good. Worse than breathing smelting smoke.

As far as coating, please check out the electrostatic gun powder coating we have developed in threads here. Eliminates the need for ANY lubing. No leading!

PM me and we can get together as discussed earlier!

Congrats! Isn't it rewarding to be free from the bullet profiteers & still shoot?

I am careful about breathing fumes when casting and tumbling. It is very rewarding casting your own. I'm going to order some additional moulds real soon :-)

I'm going to get the powder coating set up here real soon. I will be in touch Jim :-)

Looks pretty cool, actually. Welcome to the forum, '67! Same year I was born, got a brother AND an Uncle who live in Gilbert......

Looks like you got it figured out with casting temp and mold temp. How are you going to lube those things?

Yep 67 was the year I got hatched as well :) Do your brother and uncle shoot?

I am going to brew up some lube from a recipe I found on here and do it in cake form. Eventually I am going to do like Banger Jim and powder coat them, which will eliminate the need for lube.

Yeah, pan/cake lubing will work just fine...... Bro and Uncle are non-shooters. I'm pretty much the only one of 5 kids, despite another brother who is a cop, who is an active shooter. The rest play golf. ha ha!!
