I'm wanting to build an AR with a 9x39 upper, for those of you who do not know its kinda like a poor mans 35 Remington. I was planning on using 200 grn round flat nose boolits from RCBS pushing them at around 1800 FPS has any one here had any experience with this?

Read something on one of the gun boards or reviews sometime back. Never followed it up, haven't seen anything since.

The 9x39 uses the same taper as the 7.62x39 case, and works in AK-47 mags. Has the same problems in AR-15 mags that 7,62x39 does in the AR mags. There is a wildcat called the .358 Gremlin that uses the 6.5mm Grendel case (7.62x39 with the taper blown out) to make an AR friendly 35 caliber .

The Russians have a gun that shoots this. It is a subsonic round. Their Special Forces use it. Can't remember the gun though.

I should have been more specific, yes this is more like the Gremlin round it is really a 35 Remington short chambered to the 7.62x39 case if that makes any since

There was a guy on this site few years back (airborne???) who was working on something like this. It kind of died.

I think it would fill a great niche to have a .358 caliber round that would reliably function in the AR. It could use many of the heavier pistol bullets and adding a 200 gr bullet would turn it into great deer/bear/hog gun. It would do a good job in a self-defense role as well.

I would be very interested in it.

My gun smith has sold many uppers that function amazingly I have shot them in 3,5,7,9 in barrels for pistols but he is scared of lead in semi auto platforms

I wonder if any 9x39 dies exist. I'd certainly like the 358 gremlin in the AR platform but apparently there are some 7.62x39 platform oriented guns like the PTR32 and VZ58 which if a decent quality barrel were put on them would make for an outstanding suppressed rifle and the magazines already exist and are abundant.
