I have bought, sold and traded with more than a dozen board members, too many to list even if I could remember. They nearly all had several characteristics in common; honesty, trust in fellow gun guys, merchandise scrupulously described, bullet proof packing, and excellent communication. The exception was somebody with two last names, Pembroke Cardigan or some such. This man turned out to be honest, but terrible at communication. He would go a week or two without answering a PM. Dealing with him was like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall. He had inherited, or bought at an estate sale, a number of moulds and packages of gas checks. I tried to buy six moulds from his list, five for a couple of other board members, and a Lyman 311467 for me. After much delay he said that he might someday take up match shooting so he had changed his mind and was keeping the .30 cal. moulds. I went ahead and ordered the five moulds for my friends and they were poorly packed, but arrived OK, and in excellent shape. All told, I was a month or so completing the deal . I sensed that the seller was not really a gun nut, but all's well that ends well. I haven't seen him on the board since, and it's been two years. My new rule on trading is that I only trade with established board members. The drive-by sellers may be all right, but they don't appreciate that we want our stuff RIGHT NOW, like the real gun people do.

And now for Paul Harvey's "Rest of the Story." About a month after the elusive mould deal I was able to trade an object of interest to Trooper Dan for a Lyman 311467. He told me to not send my end of the trade until I had seen the mould. I had to give him the same treatment, so our stuff crossed in the mail. That's very typical of dealing with all of you guys, thank you very much.

People who are serious about their sport/avocation seem to be more reliable than somebody who is selling just for the money. The same goes for guys on this forum and the ones on the cowboy shooting forums. I sell bullets and just put the packages in the mail before the checks arrive many times. Haven't been burnt yet. I think gun people are more reliable than your average citizen. Must be the training or mindset.

IT's cause you know how excited YOU feel when you KNOW there is a package on the way, so sending one you KNOW your gonna give the same feeling to those who recieve it.

I don't know about you but I LOVE getting something in the mail!

A few months back I posted a lot of stuff on this board and at the SASS sight that I needed so sell for a good friend and CAS that had passed. In about 45 days I had raised $2450 for his widow(whom is very greatfill).
Every transaction went very smoothly, I have no complants about any of the buyers and I heard none from them, so I guess I did good.
I have also traded a lot stuff here and have had on or heard no complants.

This is truly the best board on the net.

I'm a newbie here but have had several great transactions with folks, it's sure appreciated. I always get the feeling that folks are helping each other out, not just trying to make a buck, it's a pleasant change. Hope to be able to do the same as I accumulate stuff.

I think it was Mike Venturino (sp?) of Handloader magazine who said in one of his essays that over the decades being a gun writer and author of three books, gunsmith, etc he has had one single bad check. It was from a woman who was buying a book of his for her boyfriend. She promptly paid for the book with a MO when she found out about the bad check.

Decades of business and only a single bad check. And people think gun owners are bad.
