Hey okes,

Wouldn't a section or sticky dedicated to quality hunting pictures only, be nice?
I realy like this forum way more that I thought I ever would, but ometimes I ust get tired of all the reading and would like to relax and just look at pictures.

Or don't you okes realy like that kind of thing, I live in a hunting culture where we share hunting photos like mad.

Do somthing like that exist on this Forum, but I just cannot find it?

Cheers
Ferdi

Great pictures Bill. There are some nice elk in that country. I got the chance to hunt elk in the gila once with a muzzle loader. it was a great hunt even though I didn't connect.
The funny part was I had a cow permit (easy hunt) and saw bulls, ut didn't lay eyes on the first cow. lol Everytime I deer hunted there I could have easily killed elk.

I don't know if these really qualify as "hunting" photos, but these guys are regular neighbourhood visitors that come around and "hang out" in our front and back garden all the time!

Thank you Bill for posting the your photos I enjoyed looking and dreaming about your hunts! I think you have set the standard with a photo and a short description, very clever I think!

I think we should post pictures only of Cast Boolit hunts.

This is the first edeble animal I shot with a Lead Boolit I made myself. The boolit was a lyman 515142 cast from pure lead, and then sized straight down to .501". The boolit weigh in @ 532grains, I shot it out of a Pedersoli Rolingblock Muzzle Loader @ 1400fps with exreamly good accuracy, I got a .375" three shot group at 75yards when testing the load with 110gr substitude.
I shot this Bluewildebeest cow at 35yards after a long stalk, the herd was so unaware of me that at the booom! only the cow that I shot ran off about 30yards and stood again, she just knelt and laid down and died lying in exatly the position the photo was taken without we having to put her up for the photo. The boolit expanded to 3/4"x7/8" and weighed in @ 529grain, and was found under the skin on the farside, wound channel was about 40". The carcase when fully dressed weighed in at 222lb.

I shot this Bluewildebees bull at 49yards with a head shot. The Boolit Used was the Lee .430 310gr WW water chilled at 1500fps. The second photo shows the recovered bullet, after pasing through the head; braking the nek; passing through the neck musscle and then lodeging under the skin, one of only two boolits out of the .44 I ever found...

Mulie taken from the White River area on the Westernslope of Colorado back in 1961...at the time ranked either 16th or 17th in typical mule deer in Boone andCrockett...the kids are both parents and have grandkids (my Great Grandkids)....long time ago...my old sporterized 1917 Enfield took several nice deer and a couple of decent elk when I lived and hunted there.

Actually that was a 56 Jeep pickup with a home made camper shell on it...there was a guy in Denver that used to go to the Sand Hills of Nebraska and buy up "sand hill"jeeps at auctions, etc...never any rust...solid old Jeeps...he'd fix them up and paint them metallic green like that one and sell them pretty reasonable...I owned 3 of his jeeps in the years I hunted there....they worked great. Can sort of see it parked at the curb...brought a lot of deer home in that truck.

This was one of the most relaxing, and rewarding hunts I ever had. I had aranged a 3 day hunt and the mission was to hunt a representing Red-hartebeest bull with the 44. On the first morning I worked a aria that I know held some good lone bulls from time to time. I saw 3 good bulls grazing about 300yards away when I got up in to a large Camel Thorn Tree. I klimed down and sliped past low cover and was with in 45min about 60 yards from them. I lepardcrawled around the last bush I cept between them and myself. The fine scatered grass was about 10-12 inches tall in wicjh I ried to conseal myself. They had no idea that I was in their midst. This bull was to the left of the other two bulls by about 10, 15 yards. I laid there for about 15 min to wait for an oppertunity to take a shot. I had no rest to use, and lying flat on the ground with the rewolver butt firmly on the ground was not an option because of the height of the grass. I had to raise the gun with my arms and keep my elbows in the sand to take a stready aim. I took aim at the bull to the left when all their heads were down to test the position for a possable shot, all felt good on the shoulder and the next moment the 44 uttered a bark. The bull I shot at just froze, and slow ly lifted it's heavy head only half-way. The two other bulls scaned around and gave each other the *** look! They trod off about 15 to 20 yards after a couple of seconds and then looked at the shot bull, he had by then raised his head completly, and wanted to join the other two bulls but but failed in his attemt in less than 5 steps and went down. The other two bulls took off at the downed bull's collaps, but stopped and looked back after going about 50 yards. When I got up to go the the bull I shot, those two other bulls snorted,as if to say "Hey, there's somthing there...." I'm like, - ja I,ve been here all the time, and you think you saw somthing new?? The shot was taken at 53yards.

I love to supprise game, but having them not believe what just had happend when it had happened was just Price less!

The boolit used was my regular 320gr LBT LFN at 1400fps. The entry hole is visable on the photo, and as always just passed through.

Javelina. 12-00Buck propelled with a healthy dose of Longshot.
Not a very exciting hunt or long, maybe 3 hours. This boar and a sow and a couple young ones crossed an arroyo about 40 yards ahead of me. I decided to flank high out of the arroyo and see if I could head them off. Worked perfect. This boar started huffing and snapping at me so I let go with a dose of buckshot. He only went about 20 or 25 feet.
I spent the next 3 days hunting quail.

I was hunting in an area that got burned pretty bad a few years ago. It is just full of wildlife now. There was one area that didn't get burned because it was a timber sale area and they had already harvested the timber leaving mainly oak and there was a good acorn crop that year.
On this particular Saturday morning I worked through that area and having rained the night before I was able to identify sow and cub tracks, and tracks from two other bears including a 5"er which turned out to be this fella. I decided that due to the location it would be best to come back in the evening. I got rained on really good that afternoon and after the rain I made a big wide route hitting some key feed areas on the way back to this area.
It was just a bit before 7pm when I arrived in the area and made my way towards the middle where the most oaks were. I sat my pack on the ground and leaned up against a tree. I couldn't have been there more than 2 minutes when a heard a limb break and went to check it out. I moved about 10 yards and saw a big black bear with a small oak tree bent to the ground, he was about 90 yards away back to me. I moved to about 35 yards and came to full draw an waited for a shot. He got up and started to move straight across in front of me at 35 yds. but I didn't take a shot because I wanted him to stop. So I let down my bow and started after him again. He stopped at another tree about 70 yds from me. He stood up and grabbed a tree and bent it over and sat down on his haunches and started eating. I eased up to 40 yards and came to full draw again and waited for a shot. While he was busy eating I decided that I could sneak up another 10 yards cause he was looking off in another direction. I took one step and SNAP, he knew I was there. He looked right at me but that wasn't the worst part, the wind was right on the back of my neck. After about a minute my bow arm was starting to burn so verrrry slowly I dropped my bow arm till the lower cam came to rest against my thigh. That bear never took his eyes off me but continued to eat. About 3 minutes later he decided to leave. He let go of the tree, got onto all fours and quartered away from me. That's when I CAST :) a Slick Trick at him.

This was in September 1996. This bear killed at least 5 of the ranchers calves. We chased him from horse back with hounds for over a week in the Cuchillo Mountains. We took a day off.
The bear was seen chasing horses in a pasture south of my house. I found fresh tracks in wet sand near the creek. Next day we met with horses and dogs about 1 mile south of town. A few hours later it resulted in this photo. Three shots with a original 1873 Winchester (1880's), that had been relined to 45 Colt.
His hind feet were 9 1/2" long X 4 1/2" wide and his front pads were 5" wide.

Any black bear with five inch wide paws is a big bear.

Feral hog, taken in 2008 in Texas, took 11 animals that year with revolvers, including, elk, antelope & bear. This boar was taken with my OM Ruger 41 maggie & the great 230 gr Keith slug over 17 grs of 2400, I've used this load for 45 years.

Shot both of these Javelina around Sonora, Texas using an OM 41 maggie & a 230 gr Keith slug. I was right in the middle of about 8 pigs when I shot the first one, I topped off the cylinder & took out my varmint call, a large boar was on me before I could even stick the call in my pocket, he ran right up to me & then chickened out at the last second & turned broadside, his jaws were popping. I busted him through both front shoulders & that turned his lights out.

My best of 6 bears, this one was taken with my 10 1/2" 44 maggie, Keith 250 gr slug & 22 grs of 2400, this was spot & stalk, shot him at about 75-80 yds, he did a great back flip & rolled down the hill a ways, just enough to get me a litle nervous. He's an honest 6 1/2" bear.

Large cow elk taken at about 65-70 yds off hand using my S&W 41 maggie & the 230 gr Keith cast slug, she was working her way up through the sagebrush towards me, she was turned just enough I could slip the slug through the right front shoulder, the bullet went clear across her body & exited just in front of the left front hip, you can see the exit hole, she ran in a tight little circle for 4-5 seconds & dropped.

Saw 37 moose in 27 days of hunting & ended up shooting one of the smallest bulls I seen, I had ran out of time & had to go back to work. I had spotted a huge bull earlier in the season, figured he would go 46" (Shiras moose) had my wife with me & decided to pass because he was still in velvet. Spotted him a week later, had my wife & one of my son's with me, my son videoed the bull for several minutes, we had him once at 15 yds & I passed again. I thought I could find him later when he was out of velvet...didn't happen.
Shot this bull offhand at 45 yds with my Ruger SRH 480 with a 370 gr softnose cast slug, one shot, he turned & walked 25-30 yds & down.

This was in the mid 70's, shot this buck with the 44 maggie (OM flattop thats in the shoulder rig. 250 gr. Keith slug & 21 grs of 2400, shot was about 40 yds sitting against a tree with the knee's drawn up, buck was laying behind a log looking back at me.

Shot this bull in the Selway country, this was also in the mid 70's & also used the Ruger 44 maggie, this was a 6 1/2" flattop using the 250 gr Keith & 21 grs of 2400. The bull was standing in the river as we came around the trail on the horses, the bull was in a bad spot, he ran back the way he had came but there was a steep shale slide over there & he stopped. I ran past the pack string & sit down in the trail, shot was about 60-70 yds sitting. We rode 2 of the horses across & threw a rope on him & floated him across.

Montana whitetail, it was raining hard, jumped this doe along the river & she ran almost straight away, hit her in the center of the ribs on the right side & took out the left lung, shot was about 80 yds using my Ruger bisley 41 maggie & the 230 gr Keith slug, floated her across the river with one hand & used my walking stick to keep my balance. You gut them after you float them across!

I envy you for that 357 Maximum, I wish so I could get my hands on one...

Got this Common Reedbuck ram while slowly working a floodplane two weeks ago, shot at 40yards off-hand (Like Dick would say!) used the 44 x 320gr LBT LFN @ 1400fps.

Young coyote, I was hunting rock chucks when I noticed this coyote watching me from the shade of a lava rock, I gave him 120 grs of lead poisoning from my Browning Hi-Power 9mm, right in the kisser!

Deer & elk, taken on the same day. I shot the elk with my Encore 308 handgun & on the way out knocked off this muley buck with my 250 Ackley IMP. handgun. Went back the next morning to get my elk, the bears had beat me to it, there wasn't enough left to make a sandwich!

Very large badger, taken with my Browning Hi_Power & the 120 gr. cast slug, there was quite a bit of running involved but I got him.

Me & a friend were coming home from the county fair when this badger ran across the road in front of us, I jumped out & pulled my J frame S&W snubbie & gave chase. He headed out through some tall grain that hadn't been cut yet, for some reason he turned & came back towards me, I gave him a quick double tap & hit him but he took off straight away from me. I'm wearing shorts & Croc's & he gets out ahead of me quite a ways but slows down because he's losing blood, when I got closer he turned & faced me, gave him another double tap & over he went! Same 120 gr cast I use in the 9mm, except I size them .357" in the little 38.

Montana white tail with my NM Ruger 44 special flattop using the Skeeter load of 7.5 grs of Unique & the Keith 250 cast. I almost stepped on him, he ran back past me & stopped at the top of a little bank, I smoked him at 45 yds offhand, he ran 15 yds & down. You can see the shot through the left front shoulder.

Another Montana white tail, this one came by at about 55-60 yds on high alert, she knew I was there somewhere. I down loaded 250 grs of Elmers finest into her right front shoulder & down she went. You can see the entrance hole.

I use 120gr NBT bullets @ 2350fps in the 7-30waters. This is the first animal I shot with my then newly accuired contender, a Springbuck ram at 130yrd, I took position on a ledge, after a brisk sprint, grabed a rock in under the gun for support, the ram stoped and turned straight back at me. I went for right on the nose, and I hit it in one of the nostrils. I was stumped to say the least! It was one of that "did that realy work!!" moments, I took the rest of night to get over it!

It's amazing to me these handgun 44 shots. It use to take a 10 pound rifle to do what a 3 or 4 pound handgun does better now.

Bill, it's amazing to me what a slow heavy cast boolit can do... If a 44 revolver with a heavy CB can shoot straight throug and kill a 3000lb giraffe , anything can be done with a .458 x 500gr boolit.....

Hey okes arn't there much of you that hunt that much with your 45-70 with heavy cast boolits? I would realy like to see some of that....
What about those Sharps, Rolingblocks and Highwalls at long range??

Got this 23.5" Impala ram with my first ever snap shot@ 50yards with 1975 6.5" Blackhawk. I used 158gr PMP Factory ammo on this hunt out off desperation, as the 150gr SWC lee boolits that I cast for this hunt was shooting all over the place.

That right there is a very nice Impala & taken with an iron sighted Blackhawk makes it even better. Wish we could still use iron sights on sixguns in South Africa, I'd probably go back.
Packing in on Benny, one of the best looking saddle mules you'll ever lay eyes on. He's the one on the bottom! Packing my 45 Bisley.

My best bull with a sixgun, this was in the early 70's. Ruger OM flattop 44 maggie with the Keith slug & 21 grs of 2400, you can see it in the old Lawerence #7 shoulder rig. Shot him in very heavy timeber at about 45 yds, he was standing above me, very steep, at the shot he bolted just as I squeezed the trigger & it ended up being a gut shot. I ran back along the trail I was on & then started climbing, after 10 minutes I hit a game trail & started walking back towards where he had been standing. I looked up & he was walking towards me, all humped up, he whirled & I held for the root of his tail, at the shot he simply disappeared off the trail, when I got to him I had missed the tail completely & hit him in the back of the head. What a long day!

One of the biggest cow elk you will ever see, Ruger Bisley in 41 maggie & a 250 gr. LBT slug, the shot was 74 yds sitting, broke both front shoulders & she never took a single step. The load was running about 1150 fps with 9.2grs of Unique.

Was coming back from a friends shooting range after dark out in the mountains when this big jackrabbit jumped out of the fence row & started running down the road in front of us. We were in my son's Suburban & pulling a trailer with a 4 wheeler. I told my son to pull to the left side of the dirt road & I leaned out the window, the rabbit was kicking up quite a bit of dust, I had my old model 357 shortie with me & at about 20 yds & 25 miles per hour I ran one of Elmer's finest (173 gr Keith) through the old buck, the dust really flew when he started tumbling. The neat part was the grandson in the photo was sitting on the 4 wheeler on the trailer & saw the whole thing over the top of the car, he was so excited we almost had to tie him down!

This is a young corn raider shot at about 35yards. .44 with 320gr LBT LFN @ 1400. The scope is a cheap BSA EDGE ($30) pistol scope I used when the Leupold was send in for repairs, I used it for about 400 shots and it never had any problems at all until I got the leupold back, I was surprised as I didn't thing it would dandle the recoil at all....

A Blesbuck ewe in top condition is what I so far consider as the best venison in South Africa. She had a body overlaid with fat and was taken at 92 using the .44 with 320gr LBT LFN @ 1400

IMO the pepper spray would be seasoning for them. That's a 10 footer and they come bigger. We had to cut the hide around the belly just to pack it out. 29 1/2" for the skull measurement IIRC.
