hi- im looking to obtain the original powley psi calculator- I can be reached at larc052005@yahoo.com. I have the original powley load computer and I enjoy the way it helps you understand the sequence of developing the internal ballistics of load development. but more importantly I have access to the actual powley ballistic equations that determine the correct powder burn rate index(relative quickness) that is even more accurate for computing the most efficient imr powder that will develop the 44000 cup(not psi) pressure threshold required for the recommended starting charge for a bullet of a given weight and the case effective capacity.
I met mr. powley in ohio just before he died as he invited me out to visit him once he learned of my interest in his ballistic work and slide rule development. this is where I learned of his equations and how to apply them- which I actually prefer to his alternative slide rule ballistic calculators.
still- id like to obtain the powley psi calculator so hopefully a fellow member here can locate one for me.

Purchase Quickload, works with all powders, not just IMR.

im still very much interested in obtaining the powley psi calculator- the slide rule calculator manipulations help you think and visualize each ballistic step in the determination of powder charge and pressure development that no software can do.

Hi Charlie,

I'd like to know more about what you're doing. Can we talk?

Take care, Tom

I also have the Powley calculator but don't really want to give it up. What are you intending to do with it?

Mailed you one this morning. Both slide rules.

pdawg, that's mighty generous! Good for you.

Well, I haven;t used it for years. Why let it lie around? If Charlie will use it he is welcome to it.

hi larry

yes im looking for the powley psi calculator( more than one actually for long term future use). the psi calculator is a good guide for initial load workups but intended just as a guide of course. once one gets near a projected 48000 psi on the calculator-only direct reading of pressure signs are useful and mandatory as you are well aware of. in actuality the powley psi calculator is a CUP calculator. in homer powleys days psi was used interchangeably with CUP as the CUP readings actually are a reflection of psi standards that determine the measured length of crushed copper cylinders. actual psi is higher than cup psi due to the slower psi impulse translation due to piston momentum that must be overcome by the gas psi force (acting on the crusher piston
larry- I think I recall you being quite knowlegable with ballistics-if in fact you were or are involved with pressure testing. am I right?
