Lyman went back to flat bottomed lube groove on the
429421??? Are they monitoring this site? :)

The is a 4 cav on eBay that is in a VERY new looking box and
the Lyman site, and MidSouth show the drawing of the bullet
with the flat bottomed lube groove. Funny that bidding on the
4 cav is over $53 when MidSouth's price is $62 something for
new.

RCBS did the same thing when they went from the 44-250-KT to the 44-250-K...

Personally, I preferred the round grease grooved bullets-- they fell from the moulds easier. [smilie=1:

I have about 6 different Lyman molds of this design, 4 cavs
with round and flat bottomed and can't really tell any noticeable
difference in dropping out of the mold - or shooting, in general.
However, more lube seems like a good idea, so barring any
dropout problems like you report (I guess I have just been
lucky so far) I'll keep using the flat bottomed most of the time.

I didn't know that RCBS made round groove Keith 44s. My only
44-250 K is flat bottomed and a real shooter.

Yep. I had a 44-250-KT and it had the round grease groove. I had to send it back to RCBS for some warranty work, and they replaced it with the 44-250-K. The front driving band had been moved forward about .050", the crimp groove was more pronounced, and the lube groove went from round to square.

The new one shoots much better, but I'm sure that has more to do with the fact that it throws a round .431" bullet as opposed to the old one's oval .428".

There could be a lot of reasons why the new one is harder to fall, but I polish out all my moulds, and as a matter of general observation, the fewer "square" contours my moulds have, the easier they fall.
