a friend has a lot of printer lead. I am asuming this is called lino type. he says there is a lot of slag on top. Is this normal and can it, the slag be used. I myself only cast ww so this is why the big Q. Lucky.7

Flux the mix well and skim off the dross from the top. Clean lino is great for rifle bullets but the dross(slag) aint good for much.

There have been a couple of recent threads concerning fluxing and reducing oxides to clean metal. Look around, there's some very good information there.

If the stuff you're skimming off is heavy and looks metalic, then you're throwing away good stuff.

I'm with Jerry, it's probably the tin that has to be fluxed back into the mix.

If it's linotype it will cast very hard bullets. If it's monotype or foundry type it has to much antimony and the bullets will be very brittle. To the point of breaking in two when you drop them. You can mix this with wheel weights or even better pure lead and water drop your bullets when you cast them. They will be very hard.
