As the title states, who currently makes the most faithful recreation of the H&G #258?

What about in 357?

Thanks guys.

Veral Smith at LBT ( http://lbtmoulds.com/moulds.shtml ) says this about his 44 & 45 molds. He is very accommodating and I'm sure he'll make the same design in 41 caliber.

AUTHENTIC KEITH BULLET MOLDS

.44 240 gr. - 45 310 - 45 250 gr are available. These are exact copies of Elmer's specs. Specify desired diameter and, if desired, gc, through that will leave only the nose authentic, but performance better than Elmer experienced. If you want a 45 bullet that looks like the original 44 Keith, ask and you shall receive. Weight will be about 270 gr. All length dimensions and lube groove will be identical to the original 44.

I know it is heresy but I have used the Lyman SWC's (410059/410610) as well as the RCBS Keith style (82039) ....

As I like to them shoot at 1,100 FPS...I have did many side by side shootouts..which was best? Never determined that as on one day one would shoot better, on another..the other would. Lately I have favored, of all things, a Lee 90330 195 SWC..they cast out at 205 grains with my alloy. Just as accurate at the others and I get a few more per pound of lead. I have found that the Lyman 410059 shoots about 50 FPS slower than the rest with the same powder charge...and it has a smaller metaplate than all the others.

Veral at LBT makes his lube groove kinda shallow, probably because he makes it for his super lube. If I were doing what you are I would have someone on the board who owns that mold tell you what the meplat diameter is, length from crimp groove to meplat, then length from crimp groove to base. Then I would give this info to Accurate molds and have Tom draw what you want, or go to mountainmolds website and draw it up yourself. Either guy will make you a good mold and it will be exactly what you want.

What about the .357? Everybody makes something Keith-like and depending on which revolver you have the Lyman Keith 358429 may be too long in the nose. Elmer designed that for the .38 Special before the magnum came along and he didn't have to worry about fitting guns because his case was shorter so nose length didn't matter as much. Good linky.

Before you spend a lot of money for an authentic .38 Caliber Keith bullet...try a Lee 158 RNF...#90303....it has a huge metaplate, casts like a dream and is as accurate as any Keith style bullet that I've shot (Lyman 358429--168 Grain). Lyman's 358156 has the same nose as on the 358429, but takes a GC and has a shorter front driving band. IMHO it is more accurate than the 358429.
