I am looking to cast some 357 mag bullets. What Linotype to lead ratio do you use? I was thinking 1 lb Linotype to 2 lbs lead. Never cast 357 mag so help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

1 to 1 ratio will make 14-15 bhn. This is equal to Lyman#2. Very easy to do

Thanks I was thinking it should be 1:1.

Do you think it is necessary? I would save the Lino for rifle bullets in my opinion, I have always found straight water dropped WW to be perfectly sufficient for .357.

Just a thought, give it a chance before dropping your lino, maybe you'll be surprised.

I'd go the 1 - 2 and then add 2% tin to balance out the antimony. Been there, done that. ..works very well in magnum hand guns and auto loaders.

You don't need the Lyman #2 if the boolits fit properly. I have used 2% tin 3% antimony for heavy mag loads in 357 and 44 without a problem. For mid to low range, ACWW's work fine.

I would use about 3 to 1 but I like softer bullets than most here.
2 to 1 will make excellent bullets.

At least 2 Pb to 1 lino, maybe try 3 to 1. I have had fine results with 8 BHN
at over 16 gr of H110 under a 158 gr. boolit, with no GC. Proper fit is far
more important than hardness.

How fast are you moving them?? Water dropped 50/50 WW/range scrap with about 10 oz. of lino adde have been taken to 1300 fps. in mine with no leading. This is a LEE 4/20 pot filled with about 15 lbs. of metal. With effort, you can dig your thumbnail into the boo;its. I have no Idea what the actual hardness is. 1340 fps showed slight leading with a flat base non-checked boolit.

For full speed/pressure 357mags, 1-1 works for me.

My best accuracy with the LEE 125 gr FP, (129 gr. Actual) was around 1280. They started opening up at 1300, and really started to spread at the mentioned 1340. A harder alloy helped bur recoil was stating to increase as well so I backed them down.
