Zinc has about the same mass as cast iron, therefore it is commonly used for casting cannon balls. Check out gbocannons.com.

I buy the scrap zinc (and lead-free solder) from our company for just that.

I used up close to a ton in decoy anchors
I just used a different pot to melt it all down in

The rest ended up at the scrap yard
They pay pretty good for zink

30+ years ago I read some magazine articles about zinc cast bullets. Much lighter and harder than lead ones.

You could use the zinc to make sacrifical anodes for your saltwater boat.

I remember a similar article, but I was thinking more recent - like only about 20 years ago. Anyway, the article I remember spoke of great long range accuracy with them. Something about small targets at 400 -600 yards - IIRC.

The same topics come up recurrently, of course, as gun writers run out of stuff to write about and look back through their files. After a decade or two they figure there are enough readers who don't remember it to trot it out again.

But zinc bullets are enough off the beaten path to be interesting to think about anytime. There aren't many of us on the board who've actually tried them, and I doubt there's anyone who's gone greatly in depth working with them.

It's a 6 PDR. Preheat is important as are good mould handles.

Here's a proof shot.

I've been thinking about this for some time. I hate to see all that meltable metal go to waste. I did make some sling shot ammo for my wrist rocket, lighter but still effective and worked really well when cast in a 50 round ball mold. I also wonder how it would work as buckshot and will try that soon I hope. It may be a little more fangible, and will be lighter, so I wonder how well it will penetrate/spread. i doubt as this is a new idea, anyone else tried making buckshot yet? CJ.

Is this for shooting ground squirrels in their den? And does it make major?

Some play bingo with them...when this one is finished I will use it to shoot groups...in order to get it finished, I need to move closer to it...right now I am at 10,000 miles, come March I will be closer to 400 miles from it.
