Just called to check and I was surprised to hear that it is in production and will be ready within 10 days. Cant wait to get my hands on this one. I ordered the Northwest trade gun in 41" and 20ga. I love the rugged simple looks of this gun. Will post pics when I get it

I like the little canoe gun and, yes, they are all nice.

I was just checking on a mold and found the Lee .600 RB . Is this correct for the 20ga. I will need advice on patch thickness also.

I went back and read the sticky on trade guns. I think I have all the answers I need for now. I just placed a order with TOTW today for some 45 patches I wish I had waited so I could have ordered this stuff also. This is my first flinter so Im really excited

GARD72977, Hold off on buying a mold until you have the gun in hand and can measure the bore diameter. I didn't and wound up with 3 molds: a Dixie, which was a gift and cast .600"; a Rapine, which dropped a .605"+ " RB, and a Jeff Tanner, which casts a .597" RB (all balls cast of pure Pb). The bore of my gun is .610", btw. The Tanner RB turned out to be the most accurate, the Rapine the least. Once you determine the bore dia. and the proper mold, you'll need to search for patching. Here's what I wrote in the sticky a few years ago re patches:

"After reading quite a few posts on various forums about smoothies and patched RB's, I've learned that patches in a smootbore act differently than they do in a rifle. I.e., in a rifle, the patch expands or should expand to fill the grooves. A tight[er] or thicker patch is often beneficial in a rifled bbl. However, in a smoothbore, a thicker patch really has nowhere to go and just makes starting and seating the ball more difficult. This is most definitely the case in my gun as I've tried .014" -> .018" pillow tick patches with both .597" (Tanner) and .600" (Dixie) RB's and have found no real improvement in accuracy using thicker patches. In fact, the .597" RB is the more accurate of the two and performs as well with either the .014" or the .017" material I've recently been using. The .017" patches are a trifle more difficult to load, of course."

I like .595 ball.

I just started on another trade gun today. I'll have to check and see if it is yours! I usually don't pay attention to names on the orders, just look at the specs.

Yup, just checked, I'm building it.

Glad to hear it Rick. I had sent a email asking that you build the gun. I talked with Matt today and he never received the email. If you don't mind verify what Mold you think will work best with my gun and I will get one ordered.

I use a Jeff Tanner .595, blue striped pillow ticking, and Moose Milk lube.

I just sent Jeff Tanner a email. Hope I can get the mold pretty quick. Thanks Rick for helping take the guess work out of getting this project going.

Don't hold your breath on ten days. The actual building time I can do in about 4-5 days. What takes the real time, is the rust browning. Sometimes it works fast, and other times it has me talking to myself! If I had to guess, I would think it would go out of my door around Sept. 16-17.
