I have the opportunity to own a BLR 243 in good condition... for about £275. Could someone tell me if they are accurate?

Don't know how prices go over there but that would be a fair price over here. They have a good reputation for accuracy but I have no personal experience with them.

Here in Oz that would be a cheap BLR.
The BLR has accuracy potential at least equal to a bolt action. I owned one in .222 and it would shoot sub moa 5 shot groups consistently, and mine was one of several at our local club. There are also several in 308 at our club that will do the same, I don't know of anyone with a 243 but it should do the same. All the ones at our club are the older straight stock, steel receiver type, don't know if that would make a difference or not. I've been thinking for a couple years now that I'd like to get one and convert it to 6.5.

275 would be cheap anywhere that I know of. I have not shot the 243 personally, but have three friends that sure like theirs.

I don't know where the OP is, but I do know he is not talking U.S. $...

True, I was thinking 275 would be cheap in any country, but his 275 could be a 1000 in US bucks for all I know.

I think it is in British Pounds . Exchange rate is around 1 Pound Sterling = 1.55095 US Dollar. Still seems like a fair price. The BLR in 243 is a very nice gun. Works on coyotes and deer.

I have one in 308 that does great, a steel receiver pre 81. My 358 does OK but has a habit of tossing one out of every three shots one inch left @ 100 yards.

I have the steel receiver BLR in .308. With Nozler Ballistic Tip jacketed bullets it is 1 MOA at 100 yards. IIRC that is with WW748 powder.

I have BLR in 7 mm rem mag. I always wanted a BLR I came across one on gunbroker one day and final I got one . I should have left it at always wanting one. Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful gun in my opinion. I always loved lever guns. I wanted the BLR for the box magazines ability to open up other calibers in a lever gun. Mine is however very heavy and the trigger is so horrible it make it nearly impossible to it shoot accurately. Most gunsmiths won't even attempt a trigger job on the BLR. Looks good in the safe, but I stopped hunting with is a few years ago.

Turmech has a point about the triggers. From the factory they're like that brown smelly stuff, but if you can find a smith willing to work on them they slick up just fine.

Thanks Guys, yes it was pounds (hence the '£'), sounds like its a good price so I will pick it up tomorrow... Thanks for the advise and comments.

I've used mine in 243 since I bought it new in 1991. I've used it on open country mule deer, mountain muleys, rock chucks and gophers. It will do it all. Never tried cast in it.

I have an early Belgian made in .308. Love it; light, accurate, and nice to look at.

I think .243 is one of the more desirable calibers, should be a great gun.

Good luck with it, and let us know how you like it.
