Actually what I should have said is the message on the plates can be clever. The plates have about as much *********ce as Kommiefornia politicions. The cleverest plate I ever saw was one on a car from Nevada that read AREA 51. Now you have got to admit that is clever. There is one in this vicinity that reads EL GUAPO. I am sure there are at least three on this forum that will appreciate that one.

When I lived in Texas a number of years ago, license plates were also required on the front of the vehicle. A friend of a friend of mine had the plate "SNEWO". I never knew what it meant until one day he was behind me. As I looked in the rearview mirror I saw his name on the plate "OWENS". I was slow back then; even more today.

I still haven't seen a clever one. I find all vanity plates to be like bumper stickers. No one cares about them and find them to be stupid.

I live in Jefferson Co MT which is assigned a license plate of 51 prefix. There is at least one 5area1 and and area51. It gives new meaning to Jeff Co locals. An acquaintance once had Neg NCIC. [negative Natnl Criminal Investigative Check] MY two favorite gun related signs are a license plate holder that says "Keep Honking, I'm reloading" and a side decal " Warning Driver caries less than $20 worth of ammunition"

I like bumper stickers! Especially ones to make liberals mad!

Most vanity plates I don't understand.

Back in the late 70's when I started to drive, My folks were into CB [citizens band] radio. My Dad had our home base assigned Call letters [KEL3455] put on his Lic Plate. When I started driving, he had those plates transferred to my car. I thought it was neat, til I figured out why, those numbers were so ingrained in his head, that whenever he heard them [like on the police scanner] he'd awake from a dead sleep. He always knew when I'd get pulled over...even before I'd know. This was back in the day when 'cruizin' main street was still the big thing to do. The local police were always trying to dissuade our activity and would pull us over for any little thing, then tell us to get out of town or you'll get ticketed.

BTW: A plate with KEL3455 on it in MN looked like a heavy truck plate, so I'd get pulled over for suspicion of stolen plates on occasion, since they were on a pimped out large 4 dr, hardtop sedan.

Echo, we bought a beautiful red Carvair coupe in 1960 and we were on our way to Tucson when a VW forced me off the road. We sailed down a steep hill and cleared a three strand barbed wire fence at the bottom. Through the grace of God neither of us was hurt. It did total the Carvair though. I loved the car. If the Carvair was made the way the engineers designed it there would not have been those handling problems. It was supposed to have wide tires and anti roll bars. The bean counters had those two things eliminated when it went into production. After Nader's book they put them back on. Too late. I love all these personalized plates. Keep 'em coming.

If I'm going to pay extra for a license plate, it will be for one that gives extra money to the organization featured on the plate.

I can't figure out most of the "vanity' plates. Very well named!

It was mounted upside down.
And I saw a girl riding a motorcycle the other day with a plate that said HERLY.

The one I saw surprised me Q???U2.

The owner had it for several years with many local complaints but nothing happened till one day.

A local radio station had the Secretary of State(the head honcho of the state license dept) on the radio. They were talking about the screening of vanity plates.

You know they got several calls about the Q???U2 plate. "If he has that plate on a vehicle he is in violation of several laws and WILL be ticketed as soon as I can check on it"

Yes the very next day they announced the guy was now looking at about $5,000 in fines and the local police had already removed the plates from his very expensive vehicle. No new license would be issued till fines and suspension were satisfied.

Yes a politician did just what he was supposed to do.

MODS I tried to hide it as best as I can but delete it if it still is to obvious.

A number of years ago my wife's sister bought a little red sports car. She wanted to get a vanity plate that said "Lady In Red" The plate read: LDYNRD. My wife really busted her chops when she innocently said, "Why would you want Lady Nerd on your license plate? I about split a gut. She didn't talk to us for a while but I noticed the plate was changed!

They should not have fined him. They should have revoked the plate and given him a chance to get something different. He followed the law applied for it and got it approved by the DMV.

I agree.
The state OKed and issued the plate, if it was illegal then the state is at fault.

Actually he broke an ILLINOIS law just by applying for the plate. And another for knowingly flying the plate.

This is the state that taught B H O how to pass laws so you can see what is there and how you can shaft the folks that pay your salary.

Many states have countless employees studying EACH vanity plate AND using linguists to catch folks that try to use Azerbaijani or Zulu language words spelled correctly OR bachwords so they are only seen from your rear view mirror as was previously mentioned.

Us honest folks will never be able to understand the workings of some of these folks minds.

The perp in this case has BRAGGING RIGHTS now because he did get away with it for X amount of years and he is wealthy enough that the fines will not hurt him financially.

I don't either but I don't get 90% of what is on those plates. I assume that since this is a family oriented site that an explanation that I would understand is out of the question.

the $99 is above the usual registration and insurance ($950) since it is an "out of sequence" number plate.
