I have a question for all the amazing people on here. Can anybody tell me about hollow point wadcutters for .38 special/.357 magnum? The only thing I can find info about is turning a HBWC upside down but what I would like info about is cast wadcutters from a mould thats been hollow pointed. If anybody casts or shoots them I'd love to know what results you are getting and where you got your mould.

Tell em GP100man sent ya , or maybe not !LOL

But we`re both addicts of the silver stream :cbpour:

I believe Ben made up a HP .38 wadcutter. It would be a fun mould to try./beagle

In the early 1970's Dallas P.D. pioneered a all lead semi-wadcutter (Keith style) hp for their standard issue revolver.....it was a +p load that worked very well. If I remember right it was produced at DPD request by Winchester.....dont know what the powder was but it shot well and was a solid performer....I suspect that you can find a good semi-wadcutter mold and have it hollow pointed by one of the mould makers.....and just experiment.....hope this helps.

Have shot an Ideal mould 158 gr HP semi wadcutter for years and it works just fine. This is the old mould with the removable pin and has two pins one for solid bullets and one for hollow points. A hefty charge of H110 and you are on the road to a deer hunting load for sure.

I have had Buckshot convert a couple of my old LYMAN wadcutters into "cupped" and "V"ed hollow point style.

I bet that would be a good seller if MiHec made a 4-cavity Cramer style mould for the 38/357. I would buy one.

Although I cannot post a photo at this time, Buckshot did one for me as well, two pins, a shallow and deep pin.

What kind of expansion are you guys getting with these wadcutters? Also what alloy?

I have gone the route of casting Lee tumble lube swc, loading them then hallow pointing them. My hallow pointing set up in a block of aluminum first drilled with a 1/8" drill through the block fallowed by a 3/8" bit half way through. On the side 1/4 the way from the top I drilled and tapped a hole 90degres from the 1/8" hole. put an 1/8" drill bit in the 1/8" hole and put a 1/4 20 bolt in the tapped hole to lock the 1/8" bit to the desired depth. Use a Lee lock stud and trimmer shell holder to spin the loaded round in the 3/8 " hole to cut the hp. With this set up you are able to adjust the hp depth. On my jig I have a second hping set up with a 3/16" drill to make two stage hps.The first 1/8" of the hp is 3/16" and the remaining 1/8" is in 1/8" diamiter. The set up took around one hour to make and is working for my next set of 250 rounds with 1000 hps drilled already. The reason for turning the bullet and not the drill is to keep the hp centered. Hope this helps. Oh, by the way these boolits over 6gns of Unique out of a 357 case with Winchester small pistol primers gives me 1100 fps with dramatic expantion in water jugs. Imade this set up 3 days ago and using Lee lock stud and shell holder has mace easy work of making the hps. Aprox 200 hps per hour. All that is required is the aluminum, a drill press with vise and the apropriate drill bits, a 1/4 20 tap and 2 1/4-20 bolts aprox one one half inch long. Easy set up withe an excellent product. Sorry for the lack of pics but my camera is inop.
