One of the hurdles that folks who shoot larger than normal cast bullet is finding a seating die that will accept the large bullets . This question comes up on a frequent occasion here.

On a lark today I disassembled and cleaned four Lyman 310 seating dies, two in 30-40 and two in 30-06. I found the bullet seating chamber on each to run .317. So seating .314 or even .316 bullets should be a snap.

I have not measured other calibers of 310 dies, but I would expect them to be similarly large.

These dies can be used in a press with a thread adapter, of which I have quite a few.

I just thought I would pass the along, as this information might be of benefit to someone else.

Thanks for the information. I've used a set of 310 dies in 44 calibre in my old Lyman press and they worked just great. Those adapters are really handy. Are they still available? I haven't seen a set in years.

Great tip. I have a little collection of 310 tools and as the sizer dies are neck sizers, they see intermittent use and my "go to" neck sizer for the 45/70 is still the 310 die in an adapter for my Rockchucker press. It's kind of fun to load "old school" sometimes and they're great tools to teach youngsters the skill of reloading.

Check at Midway for the adapter or try this address:

The 310 Shop
4203 Imperial Drive
West Linn, OR 97068-3626

I haven't been in touch with them for several years, so the business may not be there anymore. It's worth a try if Midway doesn't have what you need.

Pretty easy to find orphaned 310 seating dies separated from a set. I have a Junior press semi permanently set up with the 310 seating dies for loading my Remington autoloader calibers, .25, .30, .32, and .35 Remington.

The adapters are pretty regular fare on Ebay along with die sets and single dies. Just do a "Lyman 310" search.

The neck sizing dies can be very versatile. You can neck size just about any 30 caliber rifle round with any 30 cal neck sizer.

You can also load 303 Brit, 308 Win and 30-40 with the same set of dies.

The decapping dies also can be used with many calibers.

The last time I was on the Lyman website, probably six or seven months ago, the threaded adapters were still listed. I don't remember the price. The only one I have came with a Lyman powder measure stand with a 55 mounted on it.

there are other way's to get the same thing.
i use a 45 colt die to seat my 44-40 boolits, and a lee 8mm lebel die to seat my 8 mauser boolits.
i also use a 7mm wsm die to neck size and seat boolits for my 7 icl which is larger in case diameter than a regular 7 ackley.
a regular short 30 cal neck sizer will neck size my thinner 30-30 cases to hold .310 boolits without undue stress on the boolit.
32-20 dies work great for neck sizing and seating 30 carbine .310-.311 boolits.
there are a number of dies which can be re-purposed for what we do.
