I've got a mold and gas checks coming that will be here Thursday. Dies I've had for a while and my back order of brass from Starline came in this past spring. I'm finally going to start casting and reloading for my Dan Wesson 445 Supermag. Poor ole thing has been sitting in the safe for years (almost 20) since the last time I shot it.

I feel like a little kid waiting on Christmas morning to get here I'm so excited. I might even have to take Friday off work so I can get down to business. :bigsmyl2:

"Is it wrong to get excited about casting and reloading for a new caliber?"

I get excited if I get to McDonald's at 10:29 and beat the 10:30 breakfast cut-off, so I'd say it would be wrong not to get excited about "casting and reloading for a new caliber." That is one nice looking gun.

I'm excited that your excited!!! I can't blame you, I got a new Hornady LNL loader for Christmas and had to wait months to get all the stuff to start using it!! Drove me nuts!! Thanks to some members on here I was able to get parts for the loader I couldn't get through retail channels!! Enjoy your new toys!!

I love casting boolits and working up new loads for various calibers. My two sons give me some trouble because I would rather shoot a cast boolit than a jacketed bullet any day of the week! I'd say you sound like our kind of person when you get excited over doing what we like to do here on cast boolits.

I had one EXACTLY like it. Never let something like that sit in a safe...

Got caught up spending all my money on bikes for several years. Bikes are gone and the old favorites are coming out of the safe again now.

I almost sold it this spring since I hadn't had it out in so long. I'm glad I didn't.

I can't stop checking the tracking on my package. It's in the hands of the US postal service and will be delivered tomorrow. I can't wait.

What's more fun than coming home from work to find a package waiting? :drinks:
Not much!

Thats where I have the most fun, Developing a new load. A new rifle or handgun to do it for is the icing on the cake.

I agree this is the best part of casting/loading new calibers, and I always learn something about an old caliber I cast for when doing so.
Now the other question is: is it normal to purchase fire arms because you want to cast that caliber? haha YES it is

So I'm getting everything around and set up for tomorrows arrival of my mold and gas checks and I realize..........I don't have a shell holder. :(

So I go digging through a box of old reloading stuff a buddy gave me about 3 or so years ago and lo and behold there is an old set of Lyman 44 mag dies and in the box is a shell holder.

Ok my near panic attack is averted now, I feel better.

If you are not getting excited about it then what is the point?

You should ALWAYS get excited about casting/loading for a new caliber. I get excited about working up a new load for [I]existing[I] calibers! The time I spend in my loading shop is some of the best time I spend.

When I get a new toy like that I even get up early so that I can get started!

Well I just had another setback. My scale is broke. I dropped it the other day and it seemed fine when I put it away but it won't calibrate.

I hope this isn't a sign. One near setback and one actual setback so far and not a single round loaded. :(

That's the fun working up new loads and shooting them to see what they do!

Well I got my new mold today. Had to clean up some pretty serious burs on all of the cavities but other than that it looks great. It's my first Lee 2 cavity on their new blocks so I'm curious to see how it performs. I got a new scale ordered and a buddy of mine loaned me his until mine gets in so I should be shootin this thing in no time.

The mold is on the hot plate pre heating and the PId is bringing the pot up to temp. I should be shootin in no time.

absolutely nothing wrong with that , face it Christmas morning has lost it's excitement most years , you need something each year to remind you how it felt to be a kid

some of us are lucky enough to get to feel it a few times a year , deer opener is still almost as exciting as it was the first year.

after that it is usually waiting on a part or a gun to show up

when I learned my cmp M1 was coming the next day , i had been wanting one almost 20 years and waiting on the one I ordered for 5 months , I could hardly sit still , had that Christmas morning feeling mid june.

I always get excited about new calibers, my wife thinks I get too excited about them.

Bummer, I'm going to have to lap this mold. When I run them through my 430 sizer they barely make contact and don't make any contact in most places. My calipers showed 429.5 so they are a bit shy of 430. Fired the first 6 shots and got a little leading.

I forgot how much bark this thing has too. :D

I enjoy tweaking Lee molds also! :)

Well obviously I'm doing something wrong. I've tried 3 times now to lap this mold and all I've managed to do is get it dirty 3 times. It still casts undersize. And casting at the size it does will not work for this gun. Looks like this one will have to go on the back burner for a while until I can save up for a custom mold that fits my gun.

Bummer.
