At one time I found an excellent thread on loading 25-20 on the marlin owners website. I can not locate it anymore, I think it was started by 35Remington which is on this site also.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Anyone have any loads they would like to suggest? I have an 85 gr. RD mold and H-110 & IMR 4227 if that helps.
Thanks,
Tom

Start with the 4227. 6.0 to start, SRP, .258 sized unless you know differently.

Many years ago I had an old Winchester model 43 bolt action. These were not very strong actions but it was a wonderful little rifle. For our ground squirrels (varmints) I used the old Lyman #257420 GC, it was about 70 grs & popped those squirrels like a ballon full of water. I also took a couple of deer at close range & one of my son's also took a 4X4 muley with it, maybe 45 yds. Not really a deer rifle but one of the best for raising 4 boys! Can't remember the powder, sorry!

H4227 works great in 6.5 to 7.5 grain charges for 1250 to 1400 fps or so. I like Dacron with the RCBS bullet to reduce gascutting and velocity variation. The RCBS bullet carries too much lube if both grooves are filled. Fill only one groove or tumble lube lightly instead. I like small pistol primers except with Lilgun and find Remington small pistol to be mild but pierce prone with +P loads. They are fine with most book loads under 28,000 psi.

Thanks so much!

There is such a wealth of information there for any 25-20 shooter to digest and use for years to come.

My Marlin loves 5.5gr of 2400 under an 85gr boolit, but the Blackhawk prefers 9gr of IMR 4227 behind the same boolit.
