The 36 is not micro groove, 336s are(vast majority of them anyway).
Marlin 36 was discontinued before micro groove barrels were ever made.

My 336 likes the Lee C150 fn over 32.4 gr. Imr 4064. My buddy's 336 won't shoot cast work a dime. Each rifle is a world unto it'self. Try the Lee or Lyman 170-175 gr boolits with a GC and various powders. Keep velocity around 1600-1800 fps and somewhere it should start giving good accuracy.

I have my dad's old modle 36 in 30-30. He bought it after coming home from WWII. He used it for deer until my older brother started hunting so he moved up to a Remington 721 in 30-06. He would put a notch on the stock for every buck that was killed with it, it has 17 notches on the stock and it has been over 50 years since a notch has been added. Still a good shooting gun.

Its funny how the older guys back then would notch the stocks. I would not think of doing that to one of my guns.

I have never run into a Micro-grove barrel that would not shoot cast bullets at least reasonably well. I suspect some take a bit more fiddling with. Be patient and willing to try different powders, lead hardness, sizing, etc. I recently purchased a mold from Accurate that Tom listed as being good for the Marlins. I am not worried that it won't shoot.

I am feeding 2 336 .30-30s with Lyman 31141. That bullet or its clone at .312-.314 will do a good job for you. You need to have defined the bore and groove diameter of your rifle and size accordingly. My two rifles perform well in the 18-2200fps range.

Marlin also made a 36G, it was a Glenfield gun with a 20" barrel and a 4 shot mag tube. i had one once, sold it to freind.

The 36 is a cut rifles barrel and I have transposed a couple of these onto 336 rifles for cast shooters. They love the 31141 bullet and just about any powder.

The transition from Ballard to Micro Groove was 1954, so yes the vast majority of the 336's are Micro Groove.

With a med hard boolit sized to .311 my Marlin will handle full jacketed loads just fine. The only micro groove issue I have found is it seems to take more tweaking to find the best accuracy. I am not sure that it is not the fault of the throat(or what passes as a throat) and not the rifling.

I sent what I had on hand. I usually have them L&S within a few days of casting, and I haven't cast for a month or more. Let us know how they fit in your rifle. Both of my 30-30s(336CB and 1935 vintage Savage 99) will accept .311" boolits, and I would expect the same from yours. You CAN size them smaller if your loaded ammo is too tight.

finally got my rifle off layaway.I loaded 5 bullets from each bag with 17 gr of IMR 4227 not much deference had about a 4 inch group in 20 shots open sights they shot 2 ft. low and 1 inch to the right

now the strange part I shot 3 RD of hornady's leverlution elevation was good but they where 6 inches left????

I liked the 311041 the best what mold is it? is it brass or steel

Big +1 to comments above ... Marlins old and new like .311-.312 bullets, gas checked and hard.
I have a pile of 'em and every one shoots cast just fine.
