Just got my first 223 mold, and its awesome. Loaded up a few with 4g of unique and was punching through multiple 2x4s. This was without gas checks, and from the 4 rounds it didn't show any leading. Is that sustainable with more rounds? How far do you think I could push water quenched WWs without the GC? It's the badder mold from Lee and casts about 51.5g. Shooting a 1 in 10 mini 14.

Don't worry only about leading or lack thereof. You have not evaluated the most important criterion, which is how it shoots.

Do that first and get back to us. Most have difficulties with plainbase bullets much above 14-1500 fps in most instances. Likely this isn't fast enough to cycle the action, even with appropriately slow powders.

The 4g of Unique shot well at 25 ft. But the 14-1500 is what i was looking for. Thats faster then i thought id be able to go. Figured id be shooting single shot. Thanks!

You know, I had always meant to try loading those boolits backwards in the case and shooting them about 22LR speeds,,,,,,,,.

Why backwards?

My Mini 14 won't cycle anything under 2400 fps. I reserve my gas checked 22 cb's for my single shot 223's, 222's, and hornet

you should read this post in the boolit lube area. particularly post# 1369 by dolomite. if you are willing to powder coat he has pushed a 45 grain bullet to 3300 fps WITHOUT a gas check, and has no leading

I assume you mean the Midsouth exclusive by Lee, the 22 Bator. WHERE DID YOU GET IT ???
Midsouth has been out for many months, I've been waiting for them to come back into stock...still out.
Just curious,
Jon

My mold is the Lyman 225462 design so far I've used two different powders . First is Bullseye at three point four grains . Second is 700-X at four point one grains . No leading with either but my goal was accuracy and more powder starts degrading that fast .

With a well fitting boolit and good lube, accuracy will go away long before leading is a problem.
