79109791107911179112Don't know if anyone cares but thought I'd share some photos of my speed loader, made out of spent 20ga shells, i cut them down with a tube cutter, hot glue the ends together, and wrap in camo tape, the plugs are foam rubber cut with a hollow hole punch (3/4") or you could use whatever anyway enjoy, shoot straight, regards HC

I am pretty sure they are home made muzzle loader speed loaders

When I was using a .45 caliber sidelock, I used 30/06 cases w/cork for the powder loads. 30 cal case made pouring into .45 cal barrel easy.

OK, yea, I understand we are making speed loaders..... I just don't understand exactly what, or how it is being made, and how it is an improvement on any current apparatus. I am a little slow on the uptake, but I am able to uptake!

What i'm doing here is cutting down 2 -20ga spent shells, and gluing the brass ends together, one end holds the powder the other the bullet, I use my homemade BP and it takes up more volume than a commercial loader can handle, all you have to do is pop off the foam rubber cap and pinch the end and pour down the barrel, works pretty slick for what I need, anyway ask questions i'll try to explain. Thanks HC

That is a good explanation and I understand it now. That seems as if it might work well for ML shotguns too with powder on one side and shot on the other.

Don't see why it wouldn't work for ML shotguns, I know there kind of cheesy but there functionable and thats all that matters to me. HC

Oh! that is a great idea.Funny I use spent shotgun shells I find at the range also for
premeasure powder viles .But I never thought to connecting two together with
the bullet in the other one.Great Idea!

For a goodly amount of years I cut down plastic cigar tubes that had a plug on 1 end for my muzzle loader charges I would carry afield. If I lost a plug there was no sorrow as there were more cigars being sold in these cases.Robert

hatcreek, I'm intrigued by your statement that you make homemade BP. Care to share how you're making it? and how well does it work?

A lot of guys here make their own BP. Look at the first sticky.

Check the very top of the muzzle loader form, right here. Most likely more info than any where on the net.

A very good idea. I like to actually weigh out my charges prior to going to the range when I will be shooting for smallest group size or load development. Having the charges already measured out means more time shooting and less time fiddling with powder measures and canisters.

I love the idea. I have been looking for a way to speed up the loading of conicals in my MLs. I know I could go buy commercial speed loaders, but I am a cheap bastard who likes to make his own stuff. Which I just thought of another way to do this if you don't want to use modern plastics. You can use river cane, like the old cane fishing poles were made of.

Best wishes,

Joe
