I got some new Ingot moulds from 44woody here.

I smelted a bunch of WW's and some range lead, then used the ingot moulds from him.

they worked GREAT!

cheap to boot!

Thanks!

Well Blammer, that's nice. Care to tell the uninformed about the new ingot molds, or am I the only one that does't know. Gotta pic somewhere ?

I bought a dozen of them. My output in my smelting has doubled, if not more! Pour the lead into them (I use a Rowell ladle - a 4 pounder) and while they are cooling, start the next batch of ww melting......skim and flux and skim and flux again.....by now the ingots are cool enough to flip over and they fall right out onto concrete to cool. Line the ingot moulds back up and start over!
I think I can actually do about 150-200lbs of ww per hour now....I will try my best to test that output theory out! I use a 65,000 btu burner and a cast iron pot that holds at least 75-100 lbs of lead.
It is fall here in NH and after I get my heat shield built I will take a Sunday and try to set a personal record for smelting.

Now I see the mold. Nice product. I use the smaller Lyman/RCBS 1# type because of the ease of handling and storage - and the fact I've had 5 of them for 35+ years.

You know me...I like technical details. I would probably like to duplicate those moulds, but I need some information.

What size angle iron was used (width and thickness)?
How long are the moulds?
What is the weight of the ingots they throw?
I would choose to size them for three-pound ingots.

To make for 'prettier' ends, I would cut the main body at 45 degrees, and stand the two stubs - like little A-frames - at each end for welding. Then they (the ingot moulds) would also stack, neatly nested, for storage.
