Just wondering if anyone here is casting and reloading for the new Springfield XDS 45 ?? Just got one in a trade and wondering if it is going to want something different than a 1911 ?? Thanks,
Chris

I use the same Lyman 452460 4 cavity mold for my 1911's and my XDS .45. Ran maybe 200 without a problem. I also shot 25 or so of 230 grain round nose lead too.

I gave my brother 100 Lee 452TL for his XDS. He said they all went bang.

Older guns dragged the extracted case rim over the boolit-case junction HARD and
would often bump the extracted case off of the extractor prior to hitting the ejector,
causing a jam with a loose case with SWCs. Current production has a prominent bump on
the bottom of the slide center rail just behind the breech face which depresses the
next up round in the mag as the extracted case passes over - which has eliminated
the problem.

SO - I recommend the std 1911 load. H&G 68 clone, seat to 1.250-1.260 LOA depending
on the throat in the particular barrel, taper crimp as a separate operation (important!) to
.465 to .470 max diam at case mouth. Do not fear going too tight on the TC, this is FAR,
FAR less of a problem than too little TC. W231, Bullseye and Titegroup are top choices,
but a lot of other powders work well, too. Target loads are usually in the 650-750 fps
range and for-serious loads are in the 850-950 range with 200 gr boolits.

Took it out this morning and shot with 185 wad cutters and 225 lee round nose. This thing is less fussy than a 1911 for some reason, guess that's a good thing, shot well, no malfunctions at all, good groups with both rounds. Guess the bulk 1911 ammo I have loaded is going to function well with this one as well, no special loading for it.

Ours works fine with a Lee 200 SWC FB boolit from a group buy mold I bought here a few years ago. Boolits sized .452 and seated to 1.245 feed flawlessly.

I guess there is no need for me to try anything different than what I had on hand. The 185 lee semi wad cutters with 6gr. of Unique did fine as did the 225 gr. lee round nose with the same powder charge did. Both rounds are seated @ 1.250 anyway and taper crimped in a separate operation on the Dillon 550. Started the first few shots with ball ammo, switched to Winchester Ranger 230 gr. HP LE ammo, then my reloads that I have on hand for 1911's. All did well. I thought because of the short 3" barrel it could end up being somewhat fussy, but not at all. All of the shots printed in almost the same spot @15 yards, couldn't ask for better. Don't think this one is intended for shots much past 25 yards because of the 3" barrel, but I'll be happy with that, it's a CCW.
