Stopped by the local funshop on the way home and primers are now $49.99 a brick. WOW!!! Didn't have but Federal and CCI small pistol. The odd thing was Match and standard were the same price? Can't belive when I started reloading in 2004 I paid $13.99 for a brick!!!

Paid $34 at our local sporting goods chain only about $4 higher than last summer and $6 less than a month ago..... The variation in prices seems to indicate the increases are more at the retail level than the wholesale...........I have to go 40 miles to get primers so I try to buy at least 1 brick every time I make the trip.

I remember when I could get them for less than $10 per K and that was from a local shop. Problem was, I couldn't afford more than 1 K at a time back then.

I talked to Federal/CCI/ATK and they had one "miniscule" price increases last April that should not have effected the retail price.
They said these price increases we are seeing are from the retail/wholesaler who are ripping us off.

That is the info that I am getting from both the Winchester and CCI reps. They both say that price increases are NOT coming from the manufacturers! We are being screwed by the middle-men! We will have to continue to vote with our wallets, and remember these people when times inprove!

When I started Alcan LRs were 6.00 a brick. H4831 was a dollar a pound or 60.00 for a hundred pound keg. AND no has-mat charge.

I just bought 3000 small pistol primers for 24.50 per 1000 at a local shop. First small pistol primers he's had in 7 months. He got some Win Small rifle primer in this week. Looks like things are starting to break loose around here except for 22lr, still don't see any locally.

In the late 1970's powder was about $5 lb. Primers were 1 cent each. Cast boolits were 3 cents each. Cases were about 3 to 5 cents each. 22 LR were about .50 a box of 50.

Yea, at one time you could buy a new Ford T-Model for $500. No more.

When I got out of high school I priced a new Plymouth Roadrunner. Tricked out with about everything you could get in '69. Didn't buy it because there was no way in he!! I would ever pay $3100.00 for a car!

And growing up we would scrounge for empty coke bottles so we could get change to buy 22LR's. It was common for General stores to sell individual Rounds from an Open Box. We would trade our found coke bottles for 22LR's at 1 cent each from an open box. (Yes this pre-dated the 1968 Gun Control Act).

I was in a larger shop today, and primers were $29-$35/K depending upon brand, and a 1K limit per type. Shotshell primers were similarly priced with a 10K limit. Not all types and brands were in stock. They usually have a good supply of powder, but lots of empty spots on the shelves. I wanted a jug of Red Dot, but no joy...bought a jug of 2400 for $110/8# so consider myself fortunate.
That doesn't sound bad to me. I've got enough powder and primers to last a number of years depending on my future shooting habits.
If I found primers at $29 a brick, I'd probably buy another brick or two. The 2400 doesn't sound bad either.

My local "high-end" shop cut primer prices from $50 a thousand (with a limit) down to $35. At the worst of the primer shortage he always had some on the shelf. Currently he has 8 lb jugs of Varget for $250 each. He hasn't sold any, but its in stock if you desperately need it. Meanwhile the local warehouse stores look like somebody ran a vacuum cleaner over the shelves.

Last weekends gun show had plenty of primers. Prices ranged from $35-$50/K. Most were in the $44-$45 range. You could get the $35 price if you bought 10K. A friend that was one of the vendors said it was the worst show in the 12 years he's participated.
