I'd like to try a Lee 250 RNF #90358 with either Unique or Red Dot powder in the .45 ACP shooting in a Ruger Convertible Blackhawk..has anyone tried this before? I've been using a 200 SWC and I get an occasional flyer..so I would like to try a heavier bullet.

I regularly shoot either a 452424 or a 452644 both are right around 250 gr. in 45 auto with Unique in a FA Model 97 and a Glock 21. They'll hit higher than your 200 gr. load, but they hit with authority.

in the Blackhawk revolver with the 452664 [similar to lee's 255 rnfp] I like 5 grs of unique in the acp cases.

have 4 1/2 BH Flattop Conv. Shooting the Lee 255 gr 452-252-SWC/90356 (mine casts at .453 w/ WW + 2% tin). Pushing it with Unique/Power Pistol/2400 and accuracy is very good with everything. Really haven't found anything that shoots bad...

Have to dbl check loads, and prefer not to post here, but if you like I will share via PM or email. Let me know...

I shot some 452-255 RNFP in a 1917 , I seated it out in the top lube groove w/5.0 of Unique as a max load. W/a 5050 water dropped it punched a dime in and a quarter sized hole out of an oil drum.

What throat diameter and what boolit diameter? In some guns, the issue is too
small throats, or possibly too small (& hard) boolits for the throats. Throats should be
groove diam or groove +.001 and boolits should be groove diam or +.001 in
the ideal case. Doesn't mean other fit combos cannot work, especially with
Jbullets, but with cast, fit and dimensional "happyness" are important.

My BH had .449 and .450 throats and .452 groove diam barrel, and would do that.
Reaming and polishing both cyl's throats out to .453 and shooting .453 diam solved
it.

Mine was .454"+ ...Ruger made good and gave me a new .45 ACP and .45 Colt cylinder @ .451"...same as the barrel. I .452" sized bullet must be forced to enter the cylinder throats.

Wally,
I shoot the Lee 255 RNfP w/ 5.8 gr of Unique out of my Ruger Bisley Vaquero that I fitted a 45 ACP cylinder to. It shoots 2"-2 1/2" groups out of this pistol, best part is it shoots right on using a center hold. YMMV
Like others have posted, the throats were .449"-.450" when it was new. I reamed the throats out to .4525 and all has been good.
Good luck, jmsj
