Hi all, I am looking for advice on the most popular cast bullet for my Marlin 30-30 with micro groove rifling? I am just getting into cast bullets for rifles but have cast bullets for pistols for years. I am sure that there is a "Most Popular" Mould for the Marlin rifle. I would like to stay with something in the 150 to 170 grain flat point, I also don't require top velocity but would like top accuracy. Your suggestions will be appreciated!

Check out Ranch Dogs 30 cal for Marlins, you can get to his site at the bottom of the page . He designed it for the Marlins with microgrooves . Just a thought :?:

I've not tried out Ranch Dog's mold in the Marlin 30-30, but have had exceedingly good luck using the venerable Lyman 311041 for years. It worked so well, that I gave up looking elsewhere. There are plain based bullets available, but somehow, this caliber needs more velocity than these can support.

This bullet in my 336CB is consistantly bringing in the best accuracy bar none of any cast bullet gun I've ever seen.

I've also used the RCBS 180gr. FP, and while pretty accurate, it doesn't hold a candle to the 311041 in my gun. I'd use this for hunting.

Ditto to Dr. A. I size mine fat and shoot them with great results in my MG 336.

depends on what use you have for your bullets, I use the Lee 309-150fngc in both of my 336's 1-microgroove, 1-ballard strictly for plinking, I tumble lube them and put 8gr of Unique behind them. Shoots like a .22 at fifty yards.
BTW I just ordered a 6 banger from Ranch Dog, I am hoping this bullet will work for hunting and the various .30 cal guns friends and relatives use, like .300 Savage, .308 win,.30-06 etc.

Lyman 311041 sized at .310 in my sons Win 94 gives fine accuracy. The .310 sizing die just touches the boolit at the parting lines.
