I've been working up a load with the 225107 bullet. My bullets are weighing 41 grains with gas check and lube. I've tried red dot and green dot with success but I thinking a slower powder might be better. I have plenty of H335 and am considering giving is a try but I'm not real sure where to start other than a starting load a little lower than for a jacketed bullet of the same weight. What other powders would you consider using?
I almost forgot ... this is in a .223.

Lee second lists a starting load of 26gr for a 40gr j-word @ 3299fps with H335.

I've had success with 40gr vmax and wc844 (similar to h335) in 223 at 26-28 grains

I've been using 2400 with my NOE 225107 clone in a .223 CZ bolt gun without alot of luck. It does have a 1-12 twist barrel, so I should be able to find something that will work. I am fairly certain this boolit was intended for use in a .22 hornet, 218 bee or other similar cartridges, which have a slower twist (1-14" or 1-16") if I remember correctly. I am only trying to develop a "short" range load of 50 yards, however I'm not having much luck at the present with it, or 2400. I have some Green dot and Unique that I will also try. Maybe someone with more experience with this boolit loaded in the .223 will chime in.

Bones ... a couple of the loads I've tried might meet your needs. I had good luck with 7.0 and 7.5 gr of Green Dot in the .223 with COAL of 1.992. Similar loads of Red Dot gave me similar results but I just happened to have more Green Dot on hand. According to some older Lyman reloading books velocity should be about 2100 fps or slightly higher. I plan to use this bullet for fox and coon this year and if I have to I'll go with the loads I've worked up. I just think a slower powder with a higher case volume might be a little better. I might try 3031 and see what happens. Regardless of results I'll post what I come up with.

What twist is your .223 barrel?

My apologizes, I did not read your post correctly about the slower powder. My response wasn't even close to your question. I must have forgotten my meds again! :groner:

Larry ... I believe it is 1 in 12 twist. It is an older Savage model 340.

I would try 4759, 4198, 4895 first. Use a dacron filler with 80% or less load density. Then RL19 and AA4350 if you want. The first 3 work well in my 12" twist bolt gun upwards of 2300 fps with good accuracy.

Was it Rocky Raab talking about using BlueDot in the .223?

If you have 3031 by all means try it. It is one of my favorites.

I will certainly give the green dot a try, as I have some of that here. I appreciate any info You're willing to share.

Larry, is the dacron absolutely needed with the 4895? I'm just asking as I've never used a filler before. Thanks.

Yes, I remember that, IIRC, it was Rocky.
