I had neck surgery for my stenosis Monday morning. They cracked open vertebra C3 thru C7 and put a spacer in each one. Believe it or not I have not needed any pain meds for last 30 hours and I feel fine. Muscles are sore and I took a muscle relaxer but haven't had any real pain to speak of. They have given me last IV but have left needles in, won't take those out until right before I get discharged. The last thing I have is a drain in the back of my neck but they might take that out tonight or tomorrow morning.

I expect to go home tomorrow but will not restart business for 6 - 8 weeks. Have to get rechecked in 6 weeks before I get unconditional release. I will be getting some physical therapy and have to wear neck brace/collar during that time.

I greatly appreciate all the folks here and elsewhere that kept me in mind and said a prayer for me. This is a great group of folks.

That is really good news. Modern medicine is certainly not perfect, but they
can really do some amazing things these days.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. It must be wonderful to have intractable
pain removed.

Take care of yourself.

Great news, Keith!

I fear I may be a candidate for the same surgery in the next twelve months. My neck pain is steadily becoming more and more unbearable, so I'm going to be following your progress quite closely.

In the meantime, relax and follow the discharge instructions.

Dr just came in and told me I can go home today. That is music to my ears, everybody here at the hospital is real nice but I don't want to live here!

I had cervical surgery for stenosis just 3 months ago; the worst part for me was that I wasn't allowed to drive for 6 weeks!

Wow, that made my day! Great news to hear Kieth.

I too may have that type of surgery on my neck. My chiropractor has been able to keep things moving to minimize the pain, but lately it's been getting worse. Besides, going in sometimes twice a week gets old in a hurry. Same problem with my lower back.

Be sure to follow the surgeon's recommendations, about what you can and can't do. Therapists are the best thing, even though we can grow to hate the sessions.(not the therapist!).

Wonderful news! Now you need to concentrate on recovery. I have found that the hardest part is to relax and not try to do too much. You will get "antsy" and want to do things before complete recovery. DONT DO IT!
Follow the Dr and therapist's instructions to the letter. Over-doing it will delay recovery and may cause problems! Listen to the professionals they have your best interests at heart.

Keep us updated. So far everything sounds good. Keep the good news coming!

Got home from hospital at 11:00 a.m. Wife drove, it was an uneventful trip from Louisvile to Evansville, about two hours. Don't plan to do anything beside watch Netflix movies, eat, sleep, etc.

I will do exactly what Dr ordered, I have nothing I have to do for three weeks and wife is putting up with me being a couch slug. Still a lot of soreness but no sharp pains so I am just taking muscle relaxers to keep muscles from cramping up.

Noticed some folks are going to have same procedure. In my case the tingling in my fingers that I had for quite a while is gone, and I am now able to shuffle a new deck of cards. I didn't have a lot of neck pain before but right shoulder and bicep were very week, this will take some therapy to build up and hopefully regain some strength. If your Dr says you need to have it done don't delay it, it won't get better otherwise and the sooner it is done the sooner you will start to recover.
