Anvil Shooting

They are going to reshow the Anvil Shooting on the Science Channel at 4:00 PM today.

Anvil shooting is using black powder to blow anvils up in the air just because we can.

Have shot a couple anvils myself but never knew they had a contest for it.

It used to be done quite a bit during 4th of July celebrations across the country. The movie/mini series "Hatfields and McCoys" on the History channel this past weekend showed it.

We tried it a few times as teen-agers. Then someone got the bright idea to use a "small" charge of dynamite.........fun over! My buddy's grandpa was pissed about his anvil being gone!

Would 777 or one of those substitutes work? No black powder around here.

Bill, you can order it but better yet make your own. There is a good thread on the ML forum. I've been making mine for a couple years now and it has put 2 deer in the freezer. I just need a couple anvils. I think a mortar might be more fun though.
