Tek sent me some to try and he does a super casting job. I loaded starting at 26 gr of 296, working to 27 but found I was going the wrong way. Groups opened at 50 yards as I increased. I came up and loaded some with 25.5 gr and the group was much better.
These were air cooled and I found some leading so I oven hardened a bunch for another test, waiting for them to get harder. I keep checking but I have not gained much. I heated to 425* for an hour and quenched them. About 12 bhn right now.
I would sure like to reach 18.
This is what I got so far, left starts at 26 gr and the far right was 25.5 gr. 27 was not good.
I am going to make deer hamburger with one this season! :bigsmyl2:77505

Definitely the 25.5 load as it shows on target with the powder/boolit combo there. 4 right in there and 2 out, I've seen that when alloy is a bit soft for the load.

Yes, that is all it is and is still good enough for 100 yards. Best thing is I will not even have to click the Ultra Dot for deer. The HP is downright scary for hunting, I will have to do it but might have to carry a blotter!
I was a little concerned about the small crimp grooves, I kept checking and found no boolit pull so they are good to go.
Tek does a great casting job, just that his WW's are different then mine. My lead water drops from 20 to 23 BHN while this lead is only 11 to 12 BHN after oven hardening. So I expect some skidding with the PB.
I might borrow his mold and try my lead.

I'd like more details on the boolit..... I have a .480R hat might like it.

You surely will if you bust it in the shoulder.............. Try the rib cage just on top of the heart, might work a sight better.................

I took a better picture for you. It weighs 387 gr as he sent them. I forget the mold he told me it is so I am sure Tek will come in and help you.
It should be perfect for the .480.
45 2.1 might know it.

I thought you were anti HP for lead bullets? I find that large a HP will guarantee fragmentation & less expansion. I settled on shallow cup points for higher impact vel. That way I get good expansion & nearly 100% wt retention up to 1300fps or so depending on exact alloy composition. That is a great looking bullet though, kind of like the Lyman DEV w/o a gc. I just wouldn't trust it to stay together much over 950fps.

That's Miha's 476640 I beleive. I had one and sold it. Didn't shoot any boolits, but did cast some and remelted them.

Jim, are you seating in the top or bottom crimp groove?

Yep that is the one. From a group buy a few years ago.

buddy and i shot some 1000 lb buffalo with 500 linebaughs using a bullet with a huge hp like that one and they failed miserably. At best we got 8 inchs of penetration. Both buffalo got shot mulitple times with it and both needed to be put down and the funny thing was they were both put down with a 44mag using a 240 swc. Probably enough bullet for deer but i would fool with anything bigger or tougher with it.

Lower groove, plenty of room in the BFR.
True the .475 does NOT need a HP and Lloyd is correct, stay away from large animals. The boolit has enough weight to go through a deer and I will stay away from bone. It is an opportunity to test two alloys but I am also interested in what accuracy I can get.
I have been bored and not shooting the gun much, it gives me something to do and you know I just have to try it deer hunting. Nothing I like better then testing.
