3pm I get the call from the school holiday program lady.

"Your daughter has had a fall, we suspect a broken arm."

I say, "Which daughter, could you narrow that down a shade?"

"Kiera"

I quickly change and get on my bike to high tail it home. Work is only 4km from home so it doesn't take long, I quickly change, grab her unicorn Pillow Pet, 'snuggly' and Kindle and into the car to the school which is only one house away. Pick up both girls and head to hospital where my wife had just started a shift. I call her from the E.R. and very calmly say "could you come downstairs please?"

We go through the process and Kiera is diagnosed with a dislocated elbow. Her elbow looked like a knee:

She gets a dose of paracetamol, then soon after some morphine, then something else to make her dopey and then just prior to the reset some laughing gas. She was funny as a fit on the gas and can't remember the reset or the cast going on. Lucky I took photos for her:

She is now in bed and fast asleep. The cast in on for two weeks and school goes back on Monday. She will have a story to tell at least.

It's been quite the evening. Lucky Sheryl was at work and just had to come downstairs. Never goes amiss having some 'uniform' on your side during a crisis.

Good thing about children, they seem to heal quickly,
and without any permanent or lasting side effects.

It looks like she was well taken care of. It sure helps to have someone on the inside to "supervise"!

That must have hurt! She looks like a little angel, she will have a story to tell her kids. I hope there was no ligament damage. Praying that it heals up just like new!

So sorry to hear this. Tell her we'll try to Skype this weekend. My youngest son Jack broke both his arms in a fall off a playground slide in 09 and they can talk about casts.

Speaking as a father with a girl, I can assure you this doesn't make Jeff any more relieved! ;-)

Best well-wishes for Kiera

What I forgot to tell you all was Kiera's biggest concern was that mummy had left work and there were a lot of sick people in the hospital that needed her more than she did. Just an amazingly brave little girl.

Brave and unselfish too. She looks to be a treasure. I think things are now on the mend and she will be good as new soon. We have a little friend here that was bitten by a copperhead the other day. I said she is in a special class because not too many people can say they have had that happen. She is completely over it and bouncing all over the place now. Yes kids do bounce back a lot quicker than us old folk.

Jeff,

It's a phone call you never want to get: "Sir, your daughter has been injured. . ." It's hard to hear what else the caller says.

Very relieved and very grateful that the apple of your eye is just fine and will heal up good as new.

You have an awesome family Jeff hope she heals quick. It's funny how when your the kid with the broken arm as I was in third grade it's really not that bad. But later in life as the parent of a hurt grade school kid I was devastated. FB

Jeff,

So glad to hear this wasn't too serious. I got a phone message from the ambulance EMT
that my wife was unconcious and being transported to a hospital after a bicycle accident.

ER was 40+ minute drive away, not a fun time. I can understand your concern, but the
great news is your trip was short so your "unknown" time was short.

Best wishes.

Jeff,
Glad it was not more serious and that even though she will be laid up for a while with it she has a good attitude about it and was more concerned about others. She must be one brave little girl, and all of it reflects well of you and your wife as parents. Tell her my family is thinking of her and wishes her a speedy recovery.

Best wishes

Tough to hear about kids being hurt. Tougher when it's your own. She sure seems like a brave little trooper. Best wishes for a fast recovery. (I've heard that ice cream therapy does wonders.)
