I would like to try this with my SMLE and Fatter 30 mold. I am using Lar's Carnuba Red, and I guess I need to find out two things. First, can I pan lube with the harder lube, and second, can someone point me in the direction on how to hone out a Lee push-through die to .316"? You guys are the best; I can't tell you how much I've learned here on this board.

Kevin,
The best way is with a lathe and a tool post grinder. This is how I finished all the custom dies I used to make. I finish ground them after hardening. Lacking this, you could use a 4" piece of 1/4" brass rod, Cut a 1" slit in the end with a hacksaw, insert a piece of wet or dry 320 grit, and with a hand drill, polish out the die checking it occasionally with a caliper or plug gauge. Since the bullet is pushing through, the diameter doesn't have to be true for the whole length of the die, as long as the smallest diameter is .316" in one area.

Pretty much what Morg said- take a cleaning rod and a strip of 220 or 320 grit paper. Wrap it around the rod and roll the die back and forth over your thigh. Move the die down the paper after 25 rolls to avoid rings. Switch end for end after 50 rolls. Took me exactly 200 rolls to open a
.329 die to.331+

Morgan's the man. I opened up a .313 to .3165 using this method. Worked well.

I tried to pan lube with C red the way I do it with my home made lube, it was just too sticky to let go and drop from my pan in a cake ,You could use Kake Kutter method I imagine with success
I ordered some and plan to mix it to make it a bit less sticky. 2500+ shot just as well for me as C red and works better for pan lube. Hope that helps

Thanks RU Shooter; this was the info I was looking for in regards to my lube question.

When pan lubing, if I run into a lube that's too sticky to push the bullets out with my thumb, I just chill the whole pan in the refrigerator for a half hour, to harden it. If this doesn't work, try the freezer.

Wrap 320 grit paper around a wooden dowel until the fit is tight in the die. Chuck it up in a drill, and push in and out of the die as it's spinning. Takes less than 30 seconds.
