Has anyone tried H4198 in a 44 mag? I'm looking for 1300fps plus for a friends Rossi carbine with a 240gr to 300gr boolit. Low pressure is the idea.

I don't know about H 4198, but IMR 4198 won't ignite very well, even with magnum primers.

Your goal of 1300 fps shouldn't be hard to make. I shot my 7.5" SRH today with mil surp M9 at 1200 fps with 265 gr Ranch Dog bullets. This is my plinking load. It's easy to go faster.

I experiment all the time with things that should not work well. H4198, small rifle primers and a 210 grain bullet is my wife's
standard target load in her 9" TC Contender (with scope for shooting at 50 yards). 1.0-2.0" groups are the norm. I use 16 grains of H4198. The bullet is a home made 210 grain jacketed via Corbin equipment. 13.0 - 15.0 grains of IMR 4759 also good with lead or jacketed. Both burn well, no smoke little residue.

I forgot to mention, this is a .357 Magnum not a .44 mag.

Interesting. Hadn't considered those powders for .44 mag. I'm working on loads using a 310 grain boolit at subsonic velocities for use in a suppressed rifle. Might be something I need to try.
