View Full Version : Upside down press mounts?

I recently saw a youtube of a Lee C press mounted upside down for use with the Lee Sizing Dies. It looks like it'd be a considerable time saver over having to place the boolit on the piston, then center it.

I have a Hornady single stage press I'd like to try this with.

Can any of you who have done this post pictures of how you mounted your press? Bonus points for a mounting system that would allow the press to be used right side up too - as I also use this press for my rifle reloads.

Very good idea. Place a bucket on the floor and away you go. I would use the Lee bench plate and mount one on the top and one under the bench. Then you can flip it over to use for rifles. You also have to switch the handle around each time.

Instead of mounting it on the top of your bench, mount it on the bottom.

This is the first one I built...way over build using 1/2" steel plate and angle bracket to stiffen it...but it works.

The Lee classic cast really lends itself to mount upside down, because of the reversable handle and infinately adjustable positions.

I made several of these using 1/4" plate for base and top, and 3/8" plate for the sides.

Really nice work, that. I forgot about having to reverse the handle.

Its times like this I wish I could weld :-)

jonB's mount inspired me to make mine. Less to get my press upside down and more because I wanted to lift my press for reloading standing up. But if I am gonna make a riser, may as well design it to mount the press upside down too, right?

Mine is just three pieces. Two plates of thick steel, and the riser is some 1.75" square tube. Weld, D&T, prime, paint.

works very well.

here is test fitting, before paint.

oh, and the metal came from the cutoffs bin at my local metals supermarket. I think I paid $5 or less for the metal.

heh. it is. Why is the existing handle choked up so short? Cause that's all I need for force to expand, and seat anything, and size pistol brass, and shorter is faster. Why is the extended handle for more pressure so long? Well, that was the length piece I found in the cutoff bin at metals supermarket, no additional cutting required.

In short, I've never actually needed it yet. I bought it because it was a target of opportunity.
