View Full Version : Lyman Master Casting kit vs Lyman 4500 Lube Sizer... Am I missing something?

I have issues on a number of my bullets getting gas checks seated straight and/or snug with lee push through dies plus pan lubing is messy and slow, so I've decided to upgrade to a lube sizer.

It looks like the Lyman master casting kit which includes the Lyman 4500 is around $200. It's suppose to include the following:
Lyman Big Dipper Furnace
4500 Sizer/Lubricator
Ingot Mold
Super Moly Bullet Lube
Long Handled Casting Dipper
Instruction Guide for Lyman Reloading & Bullet Casting Products
Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook

The Lyman 4500 lube sizer seems to retail for around $170 by itself.

Am I missing something? It seems like you get an awful lot more for the $30 difference. Should I just buy the kit and then sell the furnace and manual (since I have the manual and a lee 20lb bottom pour pot) and come out with a lube sizer, ladle, ingot mold, and dipper for less than the 4500 by itself? Is there a difference between the retail one and the one in the kit?

Another option is to buy a used 4500 on eBay for $80 or thereabouts...
