I have a box of about 200 Lasercast bullets. They're .312 115 gr plain base flat points for a 32-20 that I don't shoot at all.

Before I jump into moulds (Lee 209 soupcan plinker and others) for my 30-30, I thought about ordering a .309 sizing die and running some of these through it to try.

Any thoughts?

I also am looking at a contender barrel in 30-30 to load for also.

That might be quite a jump in diameter. I remember a number of sources saying .002" of a change is quite large and anything more than that is overworking the bullet.

Taylor; I had a simular situation with .313 dia. 115gr. Meister boolits.
had a LEE .309 pushthru sizer sitting idle and decided to try
sizing them down to shoot in my 30-30 94 , added some
LEE mule snot and loaded them over charges of IMR4227
and became a favorite plinking load.:Fire:

You might load one in a case, and see if it will chamber. Maybe you can get by without doing anything to them.

Exactly right, I've been loading for a Savage 219 in 30-30, and my best results have been with .312" slugs. Some guns are tighter, some looser, you just gotta check. Good luck.

Should be no problem sizing to .309, but is that the size you really need? Lazercast are harder than the hubbs of he!! and if they're too small prob'ly won't seal. See if those .312's will slip fit into a fired case. If they will you're good to go. Regards, Woody

I had some Lee soup can boolits sized at .309 and they shot terrible. When I sized them at .311, well the proof is in the pudding. I'd try and see if they chamber first before you start resizing. Keep us up to date on what you find. Later.:castmine:
