Zinc wheel weights [Archive]

If zinc wheel weights are mixed into the lead wheel weight alloy, how do they react?
Do they melt in with the lead, or float ,or what?
If they melt, how do they effect the alloy?

Zinc melts at a higher temperature than lead WW, but not a whole lot. If you just started your smelt pot and walked away, you could get hot enough to melt the zinc. Before they melt, they will float and you can skim them off. If they melt, they alloy to the lead and ruin its casting properties. Lots of information here. Just do a search on zinc and you'll find reading for most of a day...
