Seems I use a different rifle every year and I'm wanting to use a couple of .300s this year.

I've had some decent results with the Ideal 31141 and IMR 4895. The ones I've been using have been ACWW qwith a little tin. That worked well on a deer from a .30-30 for me a couple of years ago, but I'm going to try some softer ones this year. I also have the Ranchdog mold and may try those as well, but I think the 31141 will work better in that short neck.

Anybody hunted whitetails with cast in a .300?

Yep. 31141 pushed with 44 grains of old H-4831 for 2083 fps. A 2 1/2" hole through both lungs makes for a short tracking job.:-)

Besides the '99, I want to hunt with a Model 1920. Both rifles will chamber the 31141 with the bullet base not seated below the neck, but they won't feed through the magazine in the '99.

I had some initial success with 27 grains of IMR4895 and that bullet. Gonna try this weekend with 28 and see if accuracy holds up.

rich.
if you have access to the rcbs 30-150-fngc it is similar to the 041 but with a shorter nose and a bigger meplat.
it feeds in lever guns and bolt guns quite nicely and might be a better fit to your 300 savage.

I'll have to try that one, I've heard a lot of good things about it and the 180 grain RCBS too.
