Has anyone used WC680 in a 30-30 with good results?
I've got an 8# jug and was thinking of trying it with the RanchDog TLC-311-165RF. Mine drop around .313" so I'm pushing them through a Lee .311 die and lubing with 45-45-10.
Quickload shows a max load around 27gns for 2150fps, but a load density of only 76%. I don't know if that will cause a problem or not??
I'm going to shoot them in a Savage 340.
Thoughts?

I gut instinct is NOT to use it.

WC680 has a very small particle size, similar to WC665 (H110/W296) but a slow burning rate, which indicates a much greater percentage of deterrent coating than faster powders of similar particle size, which are used in shotgun or handgun ammunition, such as TiteGroup, etc. It is also a true spheroidal powder, rather than being rolled to manipulate its burn rate by grain geometry, as are W231 and WST.

680 works best in small cases such as the 7.62x39 and .30 M1 carbine where it can be loaded close to the available case capacity. If your load density is only 76%, I think this is asking too much of it and would not recommend it. If 85% or better, it would work well, but I don't think that can be done in the .30-30 case within safe pressures. The Savage 340 is in the same strength range as a Krag. I would not push it.

I've used 22 grains of it under the Lee C309-113F--a pretty light boolit for the 30-30...

Shooting it from a Super 14" Contender, I got 2081 fps...

That is the only load with that powder and the 30-30...

Accuracy was not good so I never pursued it further...

I have had pretty good luck with it in straight-wall pistol cases, but it burns pretty dirty...

Good-luck...BCB

I have used a charge of 18-20 grains of WC680 and the Lyman boolit #311291 in my .30-30AI with very good results. Velocity is right around 1550-1650 fps but accuracy is outstanding in both my Marlin 336 and my Handi Rifle. I get a bit more velocity and lower velocity spread with a 5/8 cube of Dacron seated over the powder. 100 yard accuracy doesn't show any difference (under 2" 5-shot groups) but the chronograph show 60+ fps differences without Dacron and only 20 (average) with)

Too bad you aren't closer, I'd be happy to trade you some 3031 or 4895 for some of it. :(
