I am looking at Lee TL312-160-2R and wondering if anyone uses these for shooting in their 03-a3 rifle? I would like some feed-back if you would, please.

Will the 30 cal lyman gas checks work with this boolit?

Thanks

Is that the ONLY mold you have? I THINK the 30 Lyman GC will work with this bullet. I used it years ago for Silly wet shooting in a TC Contender with some good results.

I think gator checks will work better. :)

The 30 cal Hornady checks worked for me with that boolit. I dont have any Lyman checks.

My shooting of that boolit in my 30-06 went GREAT, a good indicator about using larger diameter boolits than what i thought i needed. Still shoots better than my lee 309-200, but i have beagled and slowed down that load and things have gotten better.

Im shooting a tikka t3, no -03 in my arsenal. But big seems good and the accuracy seemed noticably better than flat point designs launched at the same velocity. Again, the 312 was bigger and fit better so thats probably where the accuracy came from.

Trix:

There are many, many choices for 30 caliber bullets. ~ Nearly all of them will work well in the 30'06 given a suitable load.

The LEE bullet you mention was designed for the 7.62x39 Russian. Sure, it'll work but so will lots of other designs.

Go get a Lyman catalog and consider the 311284, or the 311291 - these have been proven designs for decades.

I'm currently shooting RCBS 30-180-SP in my two 30'06 rifles. A fine design in a quality tool.

Use Hornady checks. They work fine and are $5.00/1000 cheaper then the equivalent Lyman checks.

Good afternoon,
Forrest

Love the 311284 in 30-06 and 30-40. Like mine in both with 4198. Look up the Ed Harris articles on shooting cast bullets in military rifles - great read.
