Interesting mold. Maybe someone knows something about it. Haven't cast with it yet so cant give you the diameter specs and the throw weight although its listed at 488 grains at the Three Peaks website.... The Lyman Handbook of Cast Bullets lists it as "You name it, we've got it (.454 first band, .465 2nd band, .447 two rear bands.) The base looks quite similar to the Lyman 557489 which is the Sharps Carbine boolit where the powder charge bag is tied onto the base of the boolit.

Could this be for a .45 caliber breechloading rifle? Whitworth perhaps? I'm sorta stumped.

At the moment I have found a 11.2x60mm Schuler(Mauser0,and a 11.2x72mm Schuler in that diameter. The boolit weight looks to heavy. It most closely resembles a .500/.465 Nitro-Express in Diam.and boolit weight. The .450 Rigby Match was paper patched as was the .500/.450 No.2 Musket which both use a similar weight boolit. It is the same size a 16 gauge.
The .500/.465 was sold in America till 1963.

Agree with all you stated, but I'm still wondering why all the different sized driving bands AND the funky base. Still looks like its prime to tie a big of powder onto the boolit. Insert the boolit and powder bag into the breech. Close the action which shears into the powder bag. Prime and let fly.... maybe. Maybe I'll call Lyman tomorrow.
