Okay guys, there is a lot of confusion about reloading for the 7.5x55 round. Something about the chamber dimensions on K31 are different than the variants of the Schmidt Rubin rifles. Anyway, my only Swiss is a 96/11, and it's a very neat gun but I'm not yet set up to reload for it. There is a lot of confusion about what dies to get.

I tend toward the cheaper end of the spectrum when I can, as most dies produce ammo more accurately than I shoot. What dies can I get that match the chamber of my rifle?

I was looking at the Hornady New Dimension dies. Does anyone have any input on these? I see there is a K31 version as well but assume it's not what's best for my situation.

Hornady # 546360

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on a good mold? Right now my only 30 caliber is a Saeco 315.

I've used both Lee and RCBS dies with no issues. Slug your bore if you haven't, I have three and they vary quite a bit in size.

Apparently there's an odd situation here.

Dimensionally, there's only one 7.5x55 cartridge. There are 3 variations of it, the last being the 1911 variant. That one is used in 96/11, Model 1911 and K31 rifles.

Now, it looks like RCBS doesn't make specific dies for the K31.

Myself, I would go that route.

I was just browsing some other sites (Surplus rifle) studying up on the K 31. Redding dies are made for the K31 chamber acording to the article they have published on their website. I can't help with dies for the 96/11.

I load for match competition with several K31s. I am not sure how the
96/11 may differ, but please take that into account on my comments.

I have Redding, Lee and Hornady. I will sell the Redding or Lee.

Hornady is the best dies out there now in my experience in multiple calibers, and the
match results with the New Dimension dies for 7.5x55 are the best of the three.

Are your New dimension the K31 7.5x55 dies or are they the ones with no designation?

FWIW, I use Lee 7.5 Swiss dies and the Lee, 7.62x39 155gn bullet, mould No.90385 gas checked to .309 with no issues. I have found the ogive of this bullet suits the short throat of MY K31.
