I'm looking to see if this conical will fit this gun without having to take the cylinder off. Also, has anyone tried Lee's 36 conical in a Pietra 1851?

The Lee 200gr conical would not fit under the rammer of my Pietta 1860. But the slow twist rate (1:30) of the Pietta's and other clones (even up to 1:50) will not stabilize a conical which will be going under 1000 fps. I have shot the Buffalo Bullets quite a bit (I was given a bunch of em) and they are all over the place, for me. YMMV. :Fire:

(I don't have a .36 cal)

I can't remember if i loaded lee conical s with the cylinder on the gun i use a bench loader most the time. I don't have any cast right now or i would try it for you. I know you can load them on frame on a pietta 1851 44 cal but there is a trick to it if you size the heal of the bullet using the cylinder off the gun and and the bullets will load at a angel. Sizing the heals makes the conical s eraser to load for off frame loading as well.

The Lee conicals are too long to load with the cylinder on the gun. That's a common problem but others have fixed it by "relieving" the loading area to make it bigger. I have the same problem with my Walker...I just use a loading stand. It's a lot easier that way. Besides, rb's shoot better for me.
