I've used this mold for some time now. I've always been beyond pleased with accuracy and they are my favorite cast load.

But for the first time I'm having an issue I cannot explain.

Seated to the same depth and yes I've checked it, sized in the same .310 Lee die, crimped with the same crimp, COAL is under the max 2.550" so everything should be just fine.

The lands are just touching just above the case mouth maybe tenth of an inch. I've never had this problem before and I can't figure what it is I've changed. But all the same the lead has scars from being shoved into the chamber and bouncing off the rifling. I can't for the life of me figure what I'm suddenly doing wrong.

Help, please.

shoot them before judging that they are wrong.

you just got better at casting and got better mold fill out.

Have you shot them yet? Do they still perform as expected, or is it just minor lead deformation that you are worried about? If you haven't shot them, perhaps you are worrying over nothing. Also, pictures please.

I would expect a pressure spike if the lead is digging into the bore as the cartridge seats home. I automatically assumed they were unsafe.

They are softer than jacketed, they should shoot ok.

Cases may have grown just enough to let the loaded round be too long.
I just seat em deeper and trim cases to suit the required OAL.

If you are now using an alloy that is harder (shrinks less) then the alloy you started with, that would cause that to happen.

I have moved to a bit harder alloy. I would not have thought it would be that big of a problem. As usual though I could be wrong.

Personally, I would try them out anyway. As long as your load is not already at maximum, it should be fine.

Still haven't figured out what I'm doing wrong.

You can see where the bullet has been seated a bit deeper and the crimp has shaved a tiny bit of lead.

The case length is just a hair over at 2.041" and I can't believe that .001" over would show that much.

The over all length is under the 2.550" max.

I think the answer to your question is already posted.
If you are using the same rifle, then the "nose" of your boolit has gotten larger.

I'd go back to the alloy were using when you had success with your accuracy.

Looks o.k. to me - I'd shoot it. For a target shooter, that's near perfection.

Nose diam grew. Seat deeper so you don't have to push them out of the bore on unloading or go back to the softer (smaller) alloy. They will shoot fine as is if you can get them chambered.

Shoot 'em. That's how all my 30-30 boolits look!

I always thought you were supposed to just touch the lands. I'm darn near jamming them into them. Actually I guess I am as it pushed the bullet back just a bit.

I have to seat mine to a length of 2.430", I have a newer, tight chamber Marlin. Even with the older Marlins with large chambers, Ranch Dog lists 2.482" as the cartridge length for this boolit.

My Lee C309-150-F all engrave rifling like that in my Marlin. I've always thought it was one of the reasons the boolit was so accurate.

My pre safety 30-30 marlin likes em seated at 2.462" and I have slight grooves into the lands, slight lever pressure when cycling them. My lead is a 50/50 ww/pb mix. My loads are mid range not sure of the fps. No leading or issues with the RDTL311165gc mold, sized .311 and crimped to remove the flare. 45/45/10 for slipping em down the bbl.
