I have a chance to get a bolt action 30.06 Ruger M77. I doubt if more then fifty rounds have been fired from this rifle.
Any information about this rifle would be appreciated ie: pricing/quirks

Thanks!

.

There was no such thing as a Ruger Model 77 rifle in the mid-1960's, since they weren't made until sometime in 1968 - and then only in the short-action "short-stroke" chamberings, like .243 & .308.

The long actioned, tang-safety M77's (.30-06, etc) didn't come along until a few years later.

If you have the SN, here's the early Model 77 DOM table (there are other M77 tables) from Ruger: http://www.ruger.com/service/productHistory/RI-M77.html

Just like every other Ruger Model 77 rifle, the front action screw enters at an upward angle, so as to pull the action back/down when tightened - which can offer a challenge to folks new to glas-bedding.

I tried the side-safety Model 77MKII when it came out years later, and didn't like it anywhere as much as my earlier tang-safety Mark I's - one of which was one of the most accurate rifles I've ever shot with commercial ammo ( a .30-06 M77RSI International).
That MKI .30-06RSI would put 5 shots into 3/4" @ 100yds (scoped, of course) whenever I wanted - amazing.

I have an m77 tan safety 30-06....killed my first buck with it and will never part with it. It's in a cheap ramline stock that I despise, one day I'll change that.

All in all it's a nice gun, I will eventually phase it out as my primary deer rifle, but only because I want something else for no good reason.

Buy the gun and enjoy it as I have mine!

Seems mine is a 1974.

At some point, somebody put a beautiful custom stock on it.

When I went to look at it to buy it, it was discovered that the stock was QUITE cracked.

I paid $50 less, took it home, and repaired it. Shoots like crazy!74040

BTW, I'm not one that usually likes blondes... stocks or ladies... BUT this one had to go home with me!

The one I owned briefly had a terrible trigger pull. Traded it for a Winchester Model 100 in 308 to my brother. He didn't keep it very long either. This was back in the 70's when my wife accused me of being a charter member of the Gun of the Month Club.

Fine rifles and the trigger can be made nice if that is an issue. I have one of the old, "flat bolts" in .243 and it shoots great!!!!!
