Now I can understand why the popular calibers are impossible to get, 308,223,45,9mm and the such, But can anyone explain why the 8mm stuff is hard to find? I can find bits and pieaces here and there, but I can't figure out why this is such a pain to find? I know the "shortage" by the number one gun guy is partial to blame, any clue why this stuff isn't in stock? Is it because they dont do production runs of this stuff as often? help a brother out, all I want is some once fired 8mm brass!

I would think with all the surplus rifles and the conversions and variants that is the reason.

Manufacturers are focusing on other calibers. Some things are seasonal runs. 30-06 easily converts to 8mm mauser

khmer6 is correct. 30-06 does convert to 8mm (fairly) easily. I won't go through the drill here 'cuz there are tons of resources on the net. Basically, by way of tools, you need a decent 7.92x57 die set, a way to trim cases, a good case lube and you're set. Some guys would add a method to anneal cases and I wouldn't argue with them, but I don't think you *really* need that. As an added advantage, the standard K98 bore of .323 generally makes for a better cast boolet shooter than the .30s! I'm surprised that it doesn't have a stronger following amongst cast shooters.

Best regards

I thought it was silly and hard to convert. But it was so simple to turn 270 and 30-06 to 8mm. I cut down enough, trim, lube, size, case gauge trim.

I have a friend's 8mm trim die and I run '06 brass through and follow up with a 8mm FL die trip.

Im sorry I can't bring my self to cut down 3006 to 8mm. It pains me to have to run 3006 cases through a nazi mauser. I think American would die a bit. Would rather do 8mm brass!

Graf and Sons have brass, moulds, sizing dies, reloading dies currently in stock. Just got 100 priv brass for under 50.00.

8mm isn't a popular cartridge.
Less ammo on shelves in "normal" times.
Panic buying depleted stock/inventory.
Factories won't make any more until they "catch up" with popular cartridge demands.

Grumpa has some converted 06 to 8mm brass in the swappin section. I got some last week, and he does a great job.

Midway has a whole bunch of 8mm bullets to choose from. Once I fall into a spare Remington 700 long action I plan to make a long range thumper. The numbers are there, bullets are available in shortages, and it hits stuff hard.

around here 8 m/m has always been a little hard to get. i think all the reasons have been hit. how many have come in in all most 100 years? after ww2 alot were reamed out to 8m/m 06 because brass was hard to get. then it is not a big seller most people that own them are hunters not shooters. so the ammo scare comes along . the guy that would buy 1 box a year now bought 2 or 3.

i have 400 .30-06 blank cases. half are going to become 7.65 mauser and the rest 8 m/m.

I always use surplus 30/06 cases because the base is not usually marked with the caliper. This way, someone in the future will actually try to figure out what the real caliper is. Some 06 chambers will actually take 8 mm with terrible and disastrous results.
