Last time I got great help for full house accuate loads for my 44 mag contender 10" brl.

Now I have some 240gr plain base boolits and want some plinker loads.

I have unique, WW231, and a bunch of other choices.

I can't seem to find much current data in my old load books for this.

How much of what powder to you like for plinking?

8-10gr Unique should do whatever you want to do.

I like 8 grains of either Unique or 231 for 44M plinker rounds. 8/UN is the old Lyman 'accuracy' load for the 45 Colt and 255 slugs.

Use 44-40 data.

8 grs. of Unique will do 1" at 25 yds. out of my 4" Smith with either the Keith plain base, or the 429251 round nose. Very little recoil.

The 8-10 unique folks are right on the money. I have never had
a .44 mag that didn't do at least real well with 10 unique under
a Keith bullet, RCBS 250K or 429421 WHEN SIZED CORRECTLY.
Revolvers and carbines seem to like this just dandy.

About 1000 from a 4", 1100 from a 6" and a bunch more from
a carbine, about 1400 IIRC from my 16" trapper W94.

Usually super accurate, occasionally just real good.

Also, don't use magnum primers with Unique or 2400 or you get
worse accuracy.

FYI;
Gallery Loads refers to loads suitable for indoor "Gallery" use (commonly from 50'-75').

They actually have much more utility value (edible small game hunting, general practice, etc).

I use Unique and WW231, both work very well, given loads are right on the money.

12 gr. BlueDot for a mild medium load.

I've been using 8.5 grs Unique with a 240 gr SWC with good results from my Ruger SBH.

Shuz turned us on to Green Dot on the old Shooter's site and it had worked better than anything else I have tried. Gianni

More Kudos to Shuz for his 7.0 Green Dot load. Fine accuracy and 900-950 fps with 250 gr. Keith style SWC, depending on barrle length.
