I ate kipper snacks with coffee for breakfast, read my Yeager book, watched “The Dirty Dozen”, talked on the phone for an hour with my brother, napped, went to the sportsmen’s club to terrorize 6 clay birds in some mud with a .22 caliber rifle, lit some burn barrels and stayed until dark. Brought out the folding chairs and table, set up the hurricane lamp and hand crank radio. Looked at the stars, lightning bugs and watched the storm clouds in the distance with some brilliant flashes of lightning and a small crash of thunder or two. Read some more and enjoyed a couple of hard rolls with cold cuts and cheese. Taught a slice of chocolate cake and a glass of rich chocolate milk a thing or two. Was given a gold colored pocket watch engraved with my initials on the back and a cardinal on the front. Also received a CD with my favorite bird calls and some original violin music. Raided the indoor range and scored at least 50lbs of range scrap from the backstop with minimal effort and 15 minutes.

Spent the whole day with my daughter and enjoyed many laughs.

Kid came home for the weekend(first time in awhile) and got up, did a few chores, went to Crested Butte and had pizza for lunch. Came home, put tape in VCR and taped the U.S. Open and went to the movie and saw Superman. Ate too much popcorn and drank too much soda. Went home and had a stomach ache from all the junk.
Pretty good day:grin:

Well it was complicated. My son and his GF are currently in Memphis. In the next month, they will be moving back to WI. Cassandra was in the Madison VA hospital for one week as part of her final internship for becoming a full fledged dietician. She come up to Oshkosh to look for housing.

She called Friday asking if she could come here to weed my garden! She thought of that all by herself, no urging from me.(I suspect Matt had something to do with it). Saturday morning she called, she was at the farmers market, could she bring me anything? I said a couple of slicer cucumbers or some kohlrabi would be nice, also she had my stepdaughter with her, could she come along? COINTENLY! No cucs, but 5 nice fresh kohlrabi's.

They proceeded to declare war on the weeds in my onion plants, and other stuff. My lower back has gotten so bad I can hardly bend over for more than a couple of minutes. Then Cass said the lawn needed cutting, could she do that? I resisted, even though it was long past needing cutting. She polished that off in short order.

I got a call from Matt on Saturday, he had just finished his second 3-gun match at the local Memphis gun club. Had to tell dad all about it! Got another call last night to wish me a happy fathers day.

All in all, I had a super fathers day weekend. Thanks to the thoughtfulness of my future daughter-in-law and my stepdaughter and son.

I replaced the wiper assembly in the van, replaced the rear wiper motor, and rewired a tail light. Should pass inspection now.

For a gift, I got a membership to a local shooting range.

Had dinner with the in-laws; good times and good conversation.

My christmas present to myself finally came in Saturday. A CSharps Remington Hepburn reproduction in 45-90. Spent saturday evening cleaning oiling and drooling over it. LOL. Sunday morning got up and loaded the gear up (including the new rifle). Worked with a friend who is borrowing my Sharps to try in a BPCR shiloette match next weekend. He got his 200 yd zero loved the rifle and ammo. He has 100 rds of my paper patched loads to use. I then proceeded to start breaking in zeroing the New Hepburn. I had 30 rds loaded waiting for this day. I came home My daughter called wishing me a Happy Fathers day and updating me on the grandsons growths and new discoveries He is 19 months now and pretty much everything is new to him. My Son came over and we talked and he put the new brake rotor on my Thunderbird. ( I think he did it for a reason to test drive it) I then got ready to mow the lawn but decided to wait.

I went to church and got a touching sermon about a girl that went to school wanting to tell her story about dad at a "bring your dad to school day". He wasn't there and the story started as possiblely leaning towards a dead beat dad story but she went on about what she learned from her dad and the story finished with dad being too far away in heaven because of a road side bomb in Iraq. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

I called dad and got him to talk about grandpa and had a great time listening. He passed away before I came around. And I have just one short memory of my mom's dad.

Latter in the day we cooked T bones on the grill and took the kids to see the movie EPIC and had good time with the family.

I asked The Lord for a wind-free day so I could spray broadleaf weeds in my pastures. He granted that request yesterday.

What did I do? ... I sprayed weeds.
What did I get? ... Sunburned.

Got a call from my wife and daughter 1st thing in the morning. Then I took the dog with me to go trout fishing. Caught a few, but released them. Then I went and cut a few 2X6 boards in half with my Colt Commander. All in all a good day.

My family allowed me to take all of them out for lunch. Cards and well wishes from each and I got to enjoy my grandson for several hours.
Good thing I ate a good stake, cause this morning I had 7 teeth pulled. Guess it's soup for a couple days.

It was a great day all around! All BBQ, all day! Two of my kids & spouses took me to lunch at a great BBQ restaurant, and then we spent the afternoon together. My other daughter and her family took me to another great BBQ place for ribs for dinner! Really great day with family, and I had ALL the BBQ I wanted!

Loaded up 200 45 Colt boolits, went to brunch with my family and father in law, saw my stepdad (who is dying), saw my Mom, cleaned the house, did yardwork and had a cigar on the patio as the sun went down.

Got a nice watch from my wife and the kids each gave me a beautiful card.

A terrific day.

Went to early service with my daughter, came home loaded some 115gr. SWCs for the .32 S&W-L, went to my brother's property to shoot them along with 50 rounds of .32 SWC Lee TL rounds. Shot the 3in. Model 30 Smith and the 1905 HE in .32 S&W-L. They both did good. Got home put on swim trunks and went to my Dad's house to swim with my siblings and had a great time! Got a Tshirt with a verse and an old hotrod on it and the wife got me a 4 version bible. NKJV, NLT, NIV, The Message all on each page. That thing is HUGE!

All my children and grand children were at the house--Son and I cooked hamburgers on the grill for everyone and we enjoyed the fellowship. I got home made cards and "pictures" and a copy of Chris Kyle's AMERICAN GUNS.

We slipped over to the farm and shot only 22 pistols. I wanted to try the .22 RF slide I traded for that fits my SIG 226. It is SIG mfg and fits and shoots great. One of the grand sons prefers single action revolver, one a Ruger MI, and one the Browning Buckmark. I shot some with a Ciener slide on a RRA frame. Great day and I am glad I had enough .22 in stock to shoot a brick + a little. The wife did shoot here 238 a little--she likes to practice at least once a month with her carry gun.

A great day with the kids to remind me how important my family is.

What I did: My middle child took me to the indoor range to shot my new to me 80 year old Colt 1911
What I got: 1 – a nice afternoon with my son. Lord do I enjoy him more now as a man than I ever did as a child. 2- a nice surprise at how well the colt shot my standard 45 ACP loads. 3- a nice haul on 380 ACP brass when cleaned up at the range
What I didn’t get: No 40 S&W brass when we cleaned up at the range. This is quite rare as this cartridge seems to be the market dominator these days.

My father is not much longer on this earth ..
Spent the day at his house trimming limbs, hauling limbs, cleaning out bird baths, trimming roses, working on lawn mower interspersed with cold drinks and lasagna.. Dad slept most of the day ..
finally got to talk to him for about 5-6 minutes before he slipped away again...but we were able to at least 1 more time get both his sons and my son and daughter in law there to see him .

Had breakfast at the local diner with my daughter and expecting wife (18 more days). Then we went to visit my father and came home for a relaxing mid day nap. After that we went to my wifes fathers house and spent some time over there. While there we shot my golf ball cannon.

I got a new pair of swimming trunks. They must have thought something was wrong with the pair I have had for almost 10 years LOL.

Well, my son picked Father's Day, of all days, to decide to especially NOT follow directions, and then to be willfully disobedient.

Pretty much ruined most of the day when he had to be punished several times, sometimes he just doesn't get it...

My little girl, though, made my day as usual. She told me "Happy Fadders' Day"...

BTW... My son told my wife last night, that if he is gonna act like that on my B'day (coming soon), he should probably just stay in his room all day. She agreed.

Then we went and had a good time at the in-laws, at least the day ended well.

Our daughter went to Texas with her family and our son is in Hawaii with his, so wife watched sports on tv while I loaded ammo. We went out for dinner and had a very nice meal, came home and indulged in a delicious angle food cake complete with strawberrys and ice cream. The cake was baked by my sweetheart of 55 years. All 'n all a great day.

Haven't talked to my dad in almost twenty years - still have stuff to tell him so i have to tell it to my sons and grandsons. Still miss him but telling grandsons about him and passing on the stories he told me is bitter sweet....

If you'd care to swap, I'd be willing to trade some range pickup .40 for range pickup .380. I'm not sure what the going rate is though...

Got up at 5 to fire up the smoker, 2 pork butts and kettle of baked beans. Cole slaw, tater salad, and couple gallon of tea. Step-sons and their kids and SNL pretty much did a job on the grub. Received a DVD of the Bible mini-series from my missus. Best part of the day, my Daughter called from Kalifornia and we talked for an hour, haven't seen her, her hubby, or my Grandson since 2010. Second best part of the day, smoked a good cigar and watched the sun go down with a cold beer or two. Then cleaned up everything and hit the sack. CR

Got my garden planted(it may seem a little late in the spring to start a garden but we are still getting frost on the ground most mornings), mowed the lawn, and a few other honey do's. My little girl baked me a chocolate cake for fathers day. All and all a pretty good day.

I have some .380 range brass which I have no immediate use for and I am looking to get into .40 S&W in the very near future. Maybe something can be worked out if you are interested.

Grandsons made cards for me. Card from one daughter an Buckees beaver nuggets from other. :) Told my wife not to get me anything and she actually listened this year.
Had to sleep most of the day because I'm on nights this month and had to work all weekend .
Worked last night too....

Didn't get to spend much time w wife kids or my dad because i had to work. someone's gotta keep them streets safe right ?
I'm not bitter, just getting tired of missing so many important things for work over the last 24 years.

Slept in until 11am, got myself together then drove down to Iron Mountain to pick up my son (6yo) from a camping trip with my mother and stepfather. He went to the East coast, learned about Plymouth Rock, then went up north to Maine, then back through NY and PA and arrive back to WI on Saturday. Two hour drive with the radio off just listening to his stories of adventure. Simple things in life.

Wifey took me out for berakfast. Came home, fooled around in the shop, read a bit. Both sons called during the day and I got an unexpected (but very welcome) call from my middle stepchild (she's 50), thanking me for being there for her over the last year. She is in a battle with lung cancer and I guess her natural father has not been too supportive. Went out for fish & chips supper, came home, relaxed, went to bed. All in all a good day!

Went out to breakfast with the wife and kids(10 an 11 yo), then cleaned 5 guns we had shot the day before, so while I was there I dragged out 5 others that needed a better cleaning than I had done before. My son helped for a while, then went back to his gameboy. Decided the weather was too good to be inside so we all went to the local park. My kids ferreted out a bunch of others and started a game of tag, which my wife decided she wanted to play too. Went home and my wife made a nice dinner, than we watched a movie we had rented. And for the last 2 days my wife is complaining about how sore he legs muscles are! I told her it's not like running, you use muscles you don't usually use, zigging and zagging dodging kids for an hour. A pretty nice day, all in all.

Well, for several years now our local gun club has hosted a no cost, free to the public "Outdoor Discovery Day" event on Father's Day which is an open house for the general public to come up and try a bit of everything that our club is involved in. They can try fishing in our kid's fishing pond, Archery, Trap, Skeet, .22 and centrefire rifles, .22 and centrefire handguns, black powder muzzle loaders, see demonstrations and try shooting the various guns that are used for Cowboy Action Shooting, PPC, IPSC, etc., all under the watchful eye of our club's volunteer range officers. We typically host about 450 to 550 guests and it has always been an extremely popular family event. We especially encourage family participation and have a variety of draw prizes just for Dad and the Juniors. My wife Laurie and my step-daughter Alison and I helped out with registration, general inquiries about the club, and took care of the draw prizes for the event. All in all it was a wonderful day spent with my family up at the gun club promoting the shooting sports.
(On a slightly sour note though, our club president sent a short description of our open house event to our local newspaper to be included in their "local events" section, with information about our club and all of the shooting disciplines that the public could come and try for free on Father's Day. In typical fashion though, since they are a Liberal / socialist backed newspaper, their description of the event was heavily edited by their staff and in the end it simply stated that the public could "come up and try their hand at archery or throwing a tomahawk" ... with absolutely NO mention what-so-ever of ANY of the shooting sports! Grrrrrrr ....)

Hi...

Had a real nice Father's Day.

Got up late..6:00AM
Read the Sunday paper, my wonderful wife made a great breakfast of fried eggs, sausage patties and home fries.

Went to the movies with my son and wife...saw "Man of Steel" in IMAX 3D.
They took me out for dinner afterward...Ribeye (medium rare), baked potato and salad. Had stuffed mushrooms and southwest shrimp for appetizers.

Nice cards with gift cards...I will be ordering some books later this week. My wish lists are pretty large, so I need to make some decisions.

Got home around 7 or so, talked to both daughters on the phone for a while.

Off to bed at 9...work week starts at 3:30AM Monday morning.
