I think Ideal/Lyman. Its the right color for their early models.

I started to say the same thing, but something about the body and handle looks odd.

Answer: Lyman 45
It looks like a good one too, it looks complete with a 452 die ?
It looks like there is still a label on the upper cast iron piece.

would ya sell it or keep it? Not worth a whole lot.

Would be fun jonB to have it working. Looks like punch is gone and would need a book.

I think it uses current production lyman/RCBS top punches.

I can't understand how that unit can be so complicated as to "need" a book to figure out to run it.

handle goes down
boolit gets sized
handle goes up
boolit goes up

turn the lube handle a little occasionally to put some pressure on the lube stick.

that's the technical points.
but.
i own stars so i'm not an expert on the lyman and i might be over complicating it.

Two items:
Remove the cap and make sure there is lube inside. I used a light bulb to heat the sizer to soften the lube, just to get it started.
Next, make sure the die is beveled to Swage the Boolit to size and not Shear the Boolit to size.

often it needs bolted down to and/or warmed up to remove the piston - especially if it's full of old lube
is it worth keeping ? i cant fanthom that as a serious question , amongst the non star type sizers it's many folk's favorite ( including mine ) the aluminum cap along with the cotter key handle pivot point tends to make it a mid to late production model ( the open iron capped and shoulder bolt pivot ones in skeettx's foto are the earlier versions ) would i keep it ? assuredly !!!!! but i also know that while they are my fav's they dont quite have the leverage as say the 4500's or rcbs lam's so super hard sizing chores arent what they're made for ( .002 - .003 sure but not bumping up nor massive reductions in sizes and the harder the alloy the more that comes into play )

This would be great for someone who shoots a lil' . Maybe they have a nine and a 380, well this is all they need, they may use one or two bullets. I know a guy here like that. My star should be here soon, what she said. My discovery card will be a pocket warmer. Do u really wanta know?

See here

This is the 450 but akin to the 45

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxa-UYbSXpM

The 45 uses a brass driver instead of O-Rings and you use a set screw to
hold in the sizing die instead of the nut. But pretty close

Once set up for a caliber and bullet, no need to mess with the adjustments
:) :)

Back in the day, I could find them used for about $20, wow what a deal

It's already been established as a Lyman 45. I've got one or two of them, but usually use my Lyman 450's instead.

They do use the same dies and top punches as the 450. So, current RCBS or Lyman dies and top punches will fit. They're pretty simple. Follow the instructions to adjust it, and it's as said. Put the boolit in, pull the handle down, raise the handle up, take the boolit out. Crank the lube just enough to make sure the boolit gets lubed.

All in all, pretty simple. And, they work.
